I Won't Say, I'm in love Tony resisted the urge to skip as he walked into Grace’s flat building. Tonight was the night of their third date. After they got ice cream, they had gone out of a date the next night. Since the second date, they ate lunch together whenever it was possible. Today was the first time he had seen her in a week, having been out of town on business. He got back late last night, and sent Grace a letter, simply stating that he hoped she was well, and he would see her tomorrow night at six.
It was six on the dot, and Tony buzzed the bell at Grace’s door. He was dressed casually, wearing a jeans and a grey button up and a white shirt. When they made the date, they agreed to keep it simple. They would grab a bite to eat, see a film, and maybe go for a walk in the park. As he waited for the door to open, he straighten up the bundle of flower he bought for Grace.

Grace had had a day of it. Everything had been dropped and she had taken the day off work because Harmony was sick. As much as Grace loved what she did she loved her daughter even more. All the post had been taken off owls and piled on the table. If anyone needed her they knew where she lived. But as far as she knew, her department was comfortably staffed and should have been ok with everything.
Currently Grace and harmony were both sat on the sofa. Grace in her sweats and a baggy t shirt, her hair not brushed and no make up. Beadle and Bard’s book of tales in her hand as she read aloud to her daughter. Harmony was almost the spit of her mother. Blonde curly hair and big brown eyes but her nose and her mouth she had inherited off her father, something that Grace had noticed as she got older. The bell to her flat went and Grace jumped not expecting it.
”Bet it’s Grandma. Shall we go see her?” Grace asked her daughter. Harmony nodded and put her hands out for her Mum. Grace picked her up and balanced her on her hip before going to the door and opening it. What she expected to be her Mum was actually Tony and her heart sank as her eyes widened. ”Tony? What are you doing here?” Even Harmony had taken a keen interest in the man, with her eyes not moving off him.

I Won't Say, I'm in love The door opened. There Grace stood, with a child. Tony felt his stomach drop, and heart rate pick up. She asked why he was here. "Uh, we had a date tonight, remember? I sent you an owl last night."
Tony's gaze shifted to the small child in Grace's arms. She looked just like Grace, beautiful. The pair had the same hair and eyes, the child having a different nose. There was no doubt in his mind, Grace had a child. From the looks of it, it appeared that there was a sickness going on. Grace, still looking beautiful, had sweats on, no makeup and messy hair. The little girl was in her pajamas and clutched a book.
"Hi there," he assessed the little girl. "My name is Tony, I'm a friend of your mommy's, we work in the same building." It had been a while since Tony was around children, he had to remind himself to speak at a younger age level.
Tony didn't know what to think. Grace was only nineteen, this daughter couldn't be much older than four. Oddly enough, Tony wasn't too bothered. He only wanted to know why she didn't tell him sooner. On several different occasions, Tony had told Grace about how close he was to his family. He had told her that he wanted a family. He had told her that he wanted kids. So, why did she hide it?

Date? Date?! Grace racked her brains before remembering the letter Tony had sent. It had completely slipped her mind. It made sense why he was dressed so nicely too. Grace then glanced down at herself and went red. ”I am so sorry. Harmony’s sick and I should have owled.” Grace told him.
Harmony blinked when Tony spoke to her and Grace watched them both. ”Do you take care of dragons too? Harmony asked him. ”Have you seen them? Mammy won’t let me see them. She says they are... they hurt.” Harmony said to Tony. That child would speak to anyone if they gave her half a chance. Grace was smiling at he daughter before she looked back at Tony.
”I am sorry. We could try and rearrange... if you wanted to.” Grace looked back to the little girl in her arms and brushed her blonde curls out of her eyes. ”I can show you my dragon!” Harmony almost yelled at Tony and began to wiggle from her Mum’s hips. Grace put her down and said, ”I’m sure Anthony is busy...” But Harmony had run off.

I Won't Say, I'm in love "I don't work with you mum, I catch bad guys. I haven't seen many dragons, I didn't see one until I was nineteen years old. Your mum is right, dragons do hurt. Maybe Mum can show you dragon books?" Tony addressed the small child. When the little girl ran off, he turned to Grace.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner? Did you really hiding her was the best choice?" He stood awkwardly in the doorway, holding the yellow flowers. "How long until you would have told me?"
Tony connected the dots, this was probably what Grace meant when she talked about her final years at Hogwarts. That would put Harmony at three or four years old. Would this be a deal breaker? No, probably not. It would just make things different.

”I showed her the books. She still wants one as a pet.” Grace mumbled. She was looking at the floor as Tony spoke to her trying to get her thoughts together. ”I didn’t tell you sooner because I didn’t want you thinking I was some girl who just spread her legs in school.” Grace finally said looking up at him. ”I didn’t want you to think I wasn’t... I don’t know.” She gave a sigh, ”I was actually going to tell you about Harmony tonight. I didn’t want to scare you off.”
By the time Grace had finished the little one was back pushing past her Mum and holding a large cuddly Hungarian Horntail. She reached up and gripped Tony’s hand. ”Come on Mister Tony. I’ll show you how Polly roars.” She was pulling Tony’s hand to try and get him through the door. Harmony wasn’t used to having many people apart from her family around but she liked people and always wanted them to stick around so she could tell them a story. And right now she wanted to tell Tony about how Polly had come to be hers.

I Won't Say, I'm in love “I wouldn’t have thought that. I don’t like to judge people based on the past. The Grace I know isn’t the Grace who got pregnant in school.” Tony wrapped his arms around Grace, and murmured in her ear, “Nothing could scare me off. I like you too much.”
Tony pulled away when Harmony reappeared, carrying a stuffed Hungarian Horntail. She grabbed his hand, and started pulling Tony through the door frame. Tony was no stranger around kids, he knew several young children. However, Tony was tall. He was six feet and three inches. He was dark, dark skinned, dark hair and eyes. He had tattoos. Tony was used to children being reserved, even frightened, around him. But now Harmony, she was different. She was outgoing, and seemed excited Tony was there. He followed her inside. “Is Polly your dragon?” He needed to clarify, “You know, when I was your age, I had a dragon. His name was Steven and he was a Chinese Fireball. My dad got him for me when I turned three. Did Mum give you Polly?”

Grace was feeling a large amount of disbelief. Here Tony was telling her he wasn’t going to be scared off and she could not help the smile. ”I promise you there are no more surprises.” Grace said giving him a quick hug. She was glad that he finally knew. Harmony was a large part of her life and if Tony had not been ok with it she would have had to say goodbye to him.
Grace had moved from the doorway to let Tony come in. Harmony seemed to have had a burst of energy from somewhere. The little girl was nodding as she pulled herself up on the sofa again. ”This is Polly.” she stuck the dragon out at Tony an roared, pulling some rather weird faces to which Grace held back a giggle. ”Polly and Steve should meet! Polly gets lonely with just me and Mummy.” She cuddled her dragon close. ”Mummy found Polly all alone. She needed a family and she asked if I would be a big girl and look after her.” Harmony still hadn’t grasped the fact that her cuddly was just a stuffed animal and didn’t have a family.

I Won't Say, I'm in love “Well, I’ve got one surprise for you. I want you to be my girlfriend. What do ---” Tony was pulled away by the little girl before he could finish the question. Tony knew things were moving fast between them, they’d only had their first date two weeks ago. Tony had a feeling, a feeling in the pit of his stomach. He knew he was going to be with Grace for a long time.
“I think my mum has Steve at her house. She’s home more than I am, so she can take better care of him. I could bring him next time I come over.” Tony sat down next to Harmony, placing the flowers on the side table. “Does Polly have a bed? When I was little, my dad and I made Steve a bed out of wood, the muggle way. If you want, I could make one with you.” Tony offered up. After he got Steve, Dad took him out to the backyard, and together they built a small bed. Dad had always liked muggle things, so they used zero magic. Or, at least, that’s what they told Mum and Violetta.

Grace who was standing by them with her arms folded across her chest. Tony began to speak and her cheeks flushed but before he could finish Harmony was tugging at him again. ”Come and look at where Polly stays Mister Tony.” And she was off the sofa and moving to her room. Harmony dropped her voice to a whisper, ”Polly has to sleep with the light on because sometimes she gets scared.”
Grace had followed them and was watching the exchange. She loved her daughter and was proud of the way she was open to people in her life. ”Polly sleeps with me. But she’s three now and she should have her own bed.” Harmony decided. ”Will you help me Mister Tony?” she asked him. Grace had never imagined them getting on so well. Harmony looked at Tony and frowned. With a stern voice she said, ”Polly and Steve can’t sleep in the same bed. They aren’t married.”

I Won't Say, I'm in love Tony had just sat down when Harmony was jumping up again. He forgot how much energy little kids had. He followed Harmony to her bedroom. “Don’t tell anyone, but Steve slept with a nightlight until he was seven,” he whispered. In reality, it had been Tony who was scared. He was terrified of the monsters under the bed. It was until his father called all of his Auror friends over to “vanquish the monsters” from his room. After that, Tony slept like a log.
“Well, Miss Harmony, I’d love to help you! Maybe this weekend, if you start to feel better?” Tony didn’t want to promise anything for a certain date. Often times, he went out of town on a moments notice. Tony shuddered to think about the meltdown he’d leave Grace with if he cancelled plans with Harmony. “Well, sometimes non married people can sleep in the same bed. Do you ever share a bed with Mummy or Grandma? When I was little, I slept with my mum whenever I was sick.”

Harmony motioned crossing her heart. ”I promise Mister Tony.” Harmony gave him a definite nod. I’m good at keeping secrets.” She gave him a huge grin when he said he would help and hugged his leg. ”Thank you!” Grace was leaning against the doorway and echoed her daughters words, adding, ”You’ve just made her night.”
The little girl heard Tony and shook her head at him so her blonde curls were messy around her shoulders. ”That’s different. I’m not a boy!” Boys and girls weren’t meant to sleep in a bed together until they were married. ”Polly and Steve can get married once they kiss.” She was still a little unclear on how it all worked but as far as she was concerned if a boy and girl kissed they should get married.

I Won't Say, I'm in love Tony smiled as Harmony threw herself around his leg. He ran his hand over her blonde curls, and scooped her up. As Tony gave Harmony a quick squeeze, he shot Grace a wink. “Well, we will have to see if Polly and Steve get along! In the meantime, I’ll start collecting the supplies we’ll need to make this bed.” Tony mentally started a list, he’d need his tools, wood, glue, hammers and nails. Perhaps he would need to ask his dad how he made it, and if he would help Tony plan it.
Tony stood up, and walked over to Grace. Pulling her around the corner, away from Harmony’s line of sight, he gave her a chaste kiss. “Gracie, she’s amazing,” he gestured to Harmony. “I can understand why you’d want to make sure I was in for long haul before telling me. Don’t worry, I’m in no way angry or upset.” Tony ran his hands up and down Grace’s arms a few times before pulling her in for a hug.

Harmony laughed as Tony schooped her up. He was taller than her mum and grandparents so she hel onto him slightly. ”Polly’s nice to everyone.” Harmony informed him. She knew that Polly and Steve would be friends for sure. When Harmony had been placed back down she yawned and moved towards her bed.
Grace moved around the corner with him and smiled after the kiss. When he called Harmony amazing she blushed and said, ”I think that. But I thought I was just biased.” She gave a gentle laugh. Grace hugged Tony tight for a few seconds and let go. ”Like I said, I am sorry from keeping it. She’s very special to me and I don’t mind getting hurt but I would hate to see her being hurt.” She peaked around the corner to see her daughter curled up on the bed drifting. ”I believe there was the term girlfriend mentioned earlier? Was I mistake?”

I Won't Say, I'm in love “Well, I mean… If you want to be, I’d be cool with that.”
|
[/b]Tony tried to play it cool, but his blush gave it away. Tony started to wonder about Harmony’s father. There didn’t seem to be any pictures of Harmony and a father figure. The only males he saw in pictures was an older man he assumed to be Grace’s father. “Will you tell me about Harmony’s father? If you really don’t want to talk about it, I understand. I just want to know more about your life.” [/b]Tony was nervous about taking a father type of role for Harmony. He knew that by dating a single mom, the father role would come automatically. It was just the way things were. It wasn’t bad or good, it’s just how it is.
