Somehow or the other, Linus Longbottom had found himself on the seventh floor. The boy was a little tipsy, having just left a party in a classroom on… he’d forgotten what floor it was held on. But, it wasn’t the seventh floor. Parties on the seventh floor were not to his liking. Mostly due to their location. His common room was all the way down in the cellars. In his current condition, Linus wondered if he could walk down the stairs and not fall to his death. As it was, he nearly tripped over himself as he walked down the hallway. “Not a very good way to die, Longbottom. Falling to your death.” Linus said to himself. He looked down at his attire, wondering if he should change out of his clothes before crawling into bed or just fling himself onto his bed.
Guess it depending on whether anyone caught him out of bed. Prefects. Linus shook his head as he continued walking. He had a fair amount of friends who were Prefects. He was friends with the Head Boy. He had a Professor for a father. All in all, Linus thought he was rather well connected if he ever got caught for being out of bed. Not that he would actually use that to his advantage. Or would he? Linus let out a sigh, wishing he could apparate back to his bedroom. Of course, in his current state, he doubted he would get there in one piece. Splinching himself wasn't going to be fun. Hell, he couldn't even apparate yet.
That was the last thought on his mind before Linus went sprawling onto the floor as his legs tangled up with each other. He landed on his stomach, nearly hitting his chin on the floor. “Lucky there are no pretty people around.” The Hufflepuff muttered to himself, remaining on the ground for a few more seconds before pulling himself up. He leaned against the wall, crossing his legs at his ankles and closed his eyes. The Ravenclaw common room wasn't too far, was it? He could break into their common room and stay there.

CAUSE YOU CAN’T KEEP A SECRET Thankfully, Amelia had gotten out of Prefect duty for the night. She was already terribly behind in her Astronomy lessons, as she’d had to miss the first couple classes for Prefect meetings. It was all very exciting stuff for her, as she was completely new at this Prefect business. She wanted to be the best prefect she could! The school had given her the position, hadn’t they? They must think that she was good enough for the responsibility, so she’d give them a reason to be happy with their decision. After talking to the Head Boy and Girl, though, she switched duty times with another Hufflepuff so that she could make sure her Astronomy lessons. Thankfully, she was on top of those sorts of things. The night sky was excruciatingly beautiful. The stars themselves were brighter than ever, and the moon was full and illuminated everything across the grounds, reflecting off the lake with a renewed energy. Unfortunately, there were a smattering of frothy clouds scattered across the cosmos. Despite being wonderful and adding the aesthetics of the sky itself, this made it rather difficult for her to properly chart stars and planets. After about an hour of trying to do this, Amelia gave in and slid her telescope and charts back into her bag. Taking another look out across the grounds, she lifted the arm whose elbow was supporting her purse, letting that hand graze over her other forearm. It was pretty warm, but there was a slight breeze. Why on earth she hadn’t brought a jacket with her was beyond her. Must have been a moment where she wasn’t really thinking clearly. There had been a lot of those recently. She traipsed down the stairs from the Astronomy Tower to the seventh floor, her heels tapping happily on the ground. As she rounded the corner, however, she was surprised to see a person lying face down on the ground. She skipped backwards a step, quite startled by what was before her. Well, it was a Friday night, and Amelia wasn’t born yesterday. Perhaps this was a straggler from that party she’d heard about, the one happening in the old divination classroom. The boy muttered to himself and sat up, crossing his eyes. Apparently, he hadn’t seen her. She blinked a couple times, realizing exactly who the boy was. It was their house seeker! What was his name? She bit her lip, mildly intimidated. But she was cornered and couldn’t sneak anywhere but back up the tower, so she spoke lightly. “Do you need a hand?” she asked, taking two calculated steps towards him, her legs nearly a foot away from his face. Looking down at him expectantly, her facial expression a mixture of slight confusion and concern, she couldn’t help but crack a smile. “I’m pretty sure you’re headed in the wrong direction…wherever you’re trying to go.”TAGS: Linus! Linus was slowly drifting off to sleep. He certainly always had a good night's sleep after a party. Even more so if he had company with him. But, the morning after was a different story. Hangovers were not his favourite thing. Why were there no hangover curing pills? Linus heard a voice, and his eyes tried to open. After a couple of seconds, Linus found himself staring at a pair of legs. Unfortunately, he couldn't identify who was talking to him just by looking at their legs. Female though, judging from the voice. So he looked up and saw a pretty blonde. “Oh, a pretty person. Just my luck.” He said.
“I was trying to head to the Hufflepuff common room. But apparently I can't walk without tripping over myself. So I'm sitting here until my feet decide to behave. Unless of course, you want to carry me back to the common room? I mean, I'm probably not that heavy. Not like those huge muscle-y blokes. You know the ones? With big biceps and look like they could snap someone like a twig? Yeah. Them.” Linus nodded his head, before looking up at her again. Like he'd mentioned, she was a pretty person. She was also a Hufflepuff. Right?
“Amelia... right?” He asked, as a fact tried to enter his alcohol fueled mind. “Crap. You're a Prefect. I would like to mention that I'm friends with the Head Boy. He wouldn't be too pleased with you if... well, what are you going to do? Detention? Deducting points? Tell my father? Oh, Merlin. Don't do that. He'll just make me plant more plants. I hate doing that.” Linus said, not giving the girl a chance to speak. He hiccuped, before attempting to get himself back on his feet. “Amelia Abercrombie. What are you doing out here?” He asked, as if he wasn't the one who would be getting into trouble.

CAUSE YOU CAN’T KEEP A SECRET She couldn’t help but suppress a laugh when he stared forward at her legs and then looked up at her, mumbling to himself. She bit at her bottom lip again nervously, listening to him ramble on about this or that. She wasn’t sure whether or not what he was saying was legitimate, or just senseless, drunken drabble. His tone made it clear that he’d probably had a little too much to drink, but Amelia was content to just look down at him with raised eyebrows and a slight smirk, nodding her head robotically to everything he said. Was he talking about biceps? He remembered her name? He remembered her name! Amelia was surprised, and if he wasn’t so drunk he probably would see it on her face. Maybe he did see how surprised she was. They’d only run into each other a couple times, and had probably only exchanged hellos before going on their way with their separate groups of mutual friends. And he knew she was a Prefect! That surprised her even more. It was a good thing that she wasn’t on duty, or else she’d have to deal with this mess. She hadn’t really thought about it before, a fifth year prefect disciplining a seventh year, the seeker for her house team. No, no, that wouldn’t do at all. Thank goodness she wasn’t obliged to at this particular juncture. After he finished his speech, listing all his possible connections as if he were a member of the mafia, she attempted to give him a little peace. “I’m not on duty, so you’re safe…this time.” A little half smile cracked on her lips, and she reached out her hands to help support his arm, standing him up straight. Instinctively, she brushed lightly at some dust on the sides of his arm that he’d picked up from the wall, but realized too late that it was probably a little presumptuous to do that to someone she’d only just met. Oh well, he was drunk. She tried not to think any more of it. His tone changed, and he seemed to be attempting to put himself into an authoritative position. If he wasn’t drunk and hiccupping, it might have worked! He was a right bit taller than her and stunningly attractive. Usually that silenced Amelia pretty quickly. But he’d ruined that façade for himself as soon as he’d hiccupped, showing her just how drunk he really was. And if the hiccup wasn’t enough, there was the fact that he was practically crawling around on the seventh floor of the castle, despite having a common room in the cellars. “I was finishing up some Astronomy homework, if you must know.” She crossed her arms, looking up at him from where she stood below. Even in heels, she was much shorter. “Charting stars while you were, presumably, ripping shots.” She bit at her bottom lip again while smiling, feeling a little dangerous for calling someone out like that. It was sort of out of her nature to do so. But he was drunk, right? If he’d been sober, she probably would have shut up and walked in the opposite direction. TAGS: Linus! The younger year wasn’t talking much. Then again, Linus supposed he didn’t give her many chances to speak. Not to mention looking up at her was quite a chore. Why didn’t she sit down beside him? Then he wouldn’t have to crane his neck to look at her. If he stood up, he probably would be looking down on her. He was quite tall, after all. Sure, there were a few other boys who were taller than him, but girls were usually shorter. Linus liked people who were shorter than him. Not too short mind you. He didn’t want to look like he was kneeling down just to kiss them.
Linus certainly didn’t see the surprise on Amelia’s face. He liked to know names of the faces he was talking to. He found that it made people feel more welcomed. Of course it did. That didn’t mean he memorized everyone’s names. Oh dear Merlin, no. If he rambled on long enough, he could probably recall the name of the person he was talking to. Amelia didn’t seem to impressed by who he was friends with. Ah well. Too bad. “Oh. I see.” Linus said. “That’s a relief. Never liked having detentions. Waste of time, really. And if you deducted points from me, it means less points for Hufflepuff. Which is never good. So it’s good that I’m safe.” Linus paused for a moment. “This time.” He attempted a dramatic reading of those two words.
The blonde helped him to stand up straight, and really, Linus couldn’t say he noticed what she was doing except holding him up. “Homework. My goodness. You sure you’re not in the wrong house?” Linus asked her. Of course, he was stereotyping Ravenclaws. Hufflepuffs did do their homework. He knew that. “Pssssh.” He attempted to flap his hands at her. “That is so much more fun than charting stars. Why do you want to chart stars for, anyway? Now, shots. Those are fun.” He said, putting one foot in front of the other in what was the wrong direction if he intended to walk down the stairs and back to their common room. “I suppose I shouldn’t be corrupting you. I did sneak a taste of Firewhiskey when I was fifteen. Maybe I should introduce you to it someday? Or night.”

CAUSE YOU CAN’T KEEP A SECRET He was off and babbling again, and she raised her eyebrows and nodded along with him animatedly. She was indeed listening to what he was saying and allowing for it to digest, but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t find it absolutely hilarious. Just because something was funny, she could still take it seriously. He did pose a good point. Had she been on prefect duty, she might have turned the other way before even approaching him, so as to avoid taking away precious points from her house. Hufflepuff didn’t win the house cup very often. Gryffindor would win for their Quidditch points, or Ravenclaw for their points awarded in class. Even Slytherin usually did better than them, for whatever reason. Honestly, she didn’t care about the cup very much; she just didn’t want to be the person that would intentionally put them in a losing position. Stifling a small laugh as he dramatically sounded out words, she continued to pull him upwards, her bad almost sliding off her shoulder as she did so. Back upright, she adjusted the strap on her bag, hearing her telescope jingling around happily inside it. “I’m in the wrong house? You’re the one drunk on the seventh floor, that’s pretty Gryffindor of you, isn’t it?” She lifted a hand delicately to her lips after she finished the daring sentence. It was exciting to say things like that! She was living up to her new-term-resolution: let herself out a little more, don’t be so uptight and nervous. She wasn’t sure how she’d fare the next morning, but the idea of Linus possibly not remembering any of this certainly made it easier to let her be loose about talking. She leaned back a little as his hands flamboyantly bounced around in front of her, and a surprised laugh finally escaped her, but she did catch what he said. “I don’t necessarily want to chart stars, but I’m a good little Hufflepuff and have to get my homework done! What would the other prefects think of me?!” She finally diverted her eyes away from whatever motions his hands were making and made contact with his eyes, grinning a little sheepishly. She couldn’t hold his gaze for long, though. She felt a red nervousness creeping up and around her cheeks. The seventh year seeker of her house Quidditch team was less than a foot in front of her, and drunk. It was almost more than she could handle! “Oh, how dreadful.” she said, nearly sarcastically, providing commentary for his little diddy. She would have retorted, but with what? She’d never tasted alcohol before in her life. “Sure!” she said, a little too quickly, and recovered by pretending to cough. Her expectations did not meet reality, and she looked rather ridiculous. But the idea of drinking with Linus Longbottom seemed intriguing. But where would they? What if she got caught? And stripped of her prefect badge? The possibilities zipped through her mind at the speed of a snitch, and the red in her cheeks faded ever so slightly to a more pale shade. Was he even serious in his offer? A part of her really wished he was, as antsy as she was about the entire thing. TAGS: Linus! She was laughing. Linus was pretty sure she wasn't laughing at him. He knew he could tell the different when someone was laughing with him or at him. Even when drunk. Linus was glad she was laughing. Or at least trying not to laugh. He did enjoy making people smile or laugh. Because Linus didn't know Amelia all that well, he didn't know that her statement was somewhat out of the ordinary for the girl. But he did notice the little action she did after she finished speaking. He let out a chuckle. “Best not to let any Gryffindor hear that, Amy. They'd take offense to you implying they wander the hallways after curfew drunk. Although, if we could head back the way I came from, I'm sure we'd find some Gryffindors passed out just outside of their common room.” He pointed towards the way he thought he came from.
“The other Prefects would probably think you're being a normal human being. One with magical powers, but otherwise pretty normal. But what do I know? I'm certainly not a Prefect. I suppose Cassie could be one. Always thought it would be a good thing to have a sibling as a Prefect. That is, if they're willing to break the rules for me.” Linus flashed Amelia a grin when she met his eyes. He wouldn't say he was completely unaware of the amount of blushing the girl seemed to be doing. He encountered more than his fair share of blushing girls. But Linus had to admit that this was his first time charming a girl when he was drunk. Or perhaps she was just easily impressed. Who knew?
The Hufflepuff smiled to himself at her next words. When she accepted his invitation to introduce her to Firewhiskey, Linus couldn't help but laugh. He didn't think of himself as a bad influence. Mostly because the people he surrounded himself with did not need him to teach them how to drink and be merry. Amelia was a year younger than his sister. In his alcohol hazed mind, that fact did not escape Linus. How would he feel if someone offered to introduce Cassie to Firewhiskey? Linus knew exactly what he would say. He'd ask Cassie to go ahead and drink it. With supervision. After all, it wasn't as if she wasn't going to be oblivious of the existence of such a drink. Oh, he was a horrible big brother, wasn't he? “Is that a yes, or is that a maybe?” He asked. “Didn't quite catch your answer the first time.” He said. “We'd need to do it in a high security room. Can't have you losing your badge before you even started being a Prefect. Plus, I think we're friends now, yes? You will be very useful.” He winked, teasing the younger girl.

CAUSE YOU CAN’T KEEP A SECRET Her eyes lit up a little when he used such a light-hearted and friendly gesture as her nickname. Very few people called her Amy. She doubted that he was thinking very much into it, as he seemed decently intoxicated. It was cute, she supposed. Only her brother and a couple of her close friends called her that, and never really in public. She wasn’t really the sort of girl who picked up cutesy nicknames. It was nice to have one bestowed upon her, especially by the dreamy captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. “Oh, you’re so full of it!” she said, laughing out loud, reaching out a hand to push lightly at his shoulder with her mouth dropped open in fake astonishment. “It’s all about the connections with you, hm?” she said, raising an eyebrow (though not as suavely as she imagined she was, surely), citing his networked list from earlier. “How often and terribly must you break the rules to have these things on your mind? Or is it simply because you’re currently drunk and in a state where you’re rather vulnerable to any passing authority?” That was quite possibly the most Amelia had ever said to him at one time! To anyone at one time, really. Oh, how exciting it was to be outgoing! Her reason for doing so was that she was banking on him not remembering anything the next morning. Unfortunately, her inexperience with alcohol didn’t alert her to the fact that he was (most likely) probably not black-out. She didn’t really know how firewhiskey affected the brain. He was grinning at her! Amelia felt a small welling-up sensation in her stomach and she curled her toes a little in her heels, twisting her fingers together behind her back. It was all decently overwhelming, but they were alone, in a dark hallway, and he was drunk. There weren’t many things that could make her nervous other than Linus, and he wasn’t exactly himself. It was the perfect environment. She resisted wincing a little when he asked to confirm her answer, and she cleared her throat a little, trying to take a second to build up a little courage. “Yes,” she said, trying to stand up a little straighter, though that did nothing to assist her still slightly unsure tone.
Did he really just say…friends?! It was more than Amelia could handle! She wanted to twist in a circle and squeal, but this obviously wasn’t the moment for that. Keep your cool! she told herself, squeezing her fingers behind her back so tightly that the knuckles were turning a brilliant shade of white. “What makes you so sure I’m going to do anything purely for your benefit?!” she said, winking (albeit very unskillfully) right back at him, a little friendly bite in her tone, her stronger side starting to come out, the confidence boost from before working wonders for her small talk.

Linus could only smile, because he didn't feel like speaking at that moment. It was quite strange not to want to talk. Probably because the world felt like it was spinning about. He did hear Amelia's laughter and something about connections. “Yes, all about the connections.” He muttered, because it was just rude not to reply her. Lucky he had Amelia to support him to wherever it was they were headed. The common room, was it not? Right. The common room. “I don't break rules often.” Linus declared loudly. “I mean, really. Besides the parties and drinking, I'm a model student. Although, I must say, I don't like authority. There can be nice ones, but most of them are just mean. But, you are nice.”
If Linus was sober, he might recall Amelia not being this talkative or outgoing. But he wasn't. He was also pretty sure he would remember her in the morning. Even if he didn't, he'd remember her face. She did have a pretty face. “Is that a yes? That's a yes, everyone!” Linus announced, much like a game show host would do. “A hesitant yes, but a yes nonetheless. Okay. I will take up this responsibility of introducing you to alcohol.” That was an interesting prospect. Linus had yet to really introduce anyone to alcohol. He wondered how it would all turn out. He would find out her tolerance for it. Hopefully not get her drunk.
He took a look at her, and caught a wink. He chuckled at that. “Oh, I'm not sure at all. But I like to think I can convince you to look the other way once in a while. Or you know, tell me where the Prefects are patrolling so I know where to hold the party. Come on, you don't want to land me in detention, right? The entire Hufflepuff house would mourn. Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea.” Linus said. “What would convince you to want to do something purely for my benefit?” He asked, repeating her words. “A hug? A kiss? A date to Hogsmeade?” Those would not be too difficult for Linus to do.

CAUSE YOU CAN’T KEEP A SECRET She raised her eyebrows a little at his declarative statement. She highly doubt that Linus Longbottom adhered to the rules as often as he said he did. She would have made a point about his currently being drunk being completely detrimental to his argument, but that could easily get convoluted in conversation, and he wasn’t exactly in the state of mind to handle a lot of information at the moment. Instead, she kept her mouth shut and let him finish talking. Boy, he sure loved to talk. Something about authority, blah, blah- aw! “Thank you,” she said quietly, unable to keep herself from blushing furiously. There she went again. As soon as she got herself all composed and confident, he would say something like that with those eye sand that smile, and she’d melt down to little old Amelia again, unable to keep her legs from wobbling from his mere presence. She giggled a little as he started yelling in the hallway. Maybe she should be a little more concerned, but she was fairly sure that this area was deserted. Hopefully it was. He’d just declared that he would be getting her to drink sometime in the near future. That made her want to blush again, but her cheeks were already a happy pink, and there was no way they could redden further. “Well, alright then.” she managed to say, crossing her ankles where she stood. She shook her head, laughing more. “No, of course not.” But he kept on talking, and it was rather endearing how he was completely unable to shut up. It was nice, because then she didn’t have to worry about talking. She was perfectly content to have an excuse to stare at his wonderfully attractive face. What a jawline to die for. She opened her mouth to answer his question, but he’d started to do it for her. It was a now or never type situation, with those three answers lined up. Though her blush refused to die down, she tried to get a grip. A date to Hogsmeade with Linus Longbottom?! The mere idea made her feel light-headed. Taking a deep breath, she considered her words, and said them twice in her head before speaking. Once done, she couldn’t have been prouder. “Well,” she started slowly, keeping her words sly. What an effort it was! “The first would feel a little out of place. The second, completely inappropriate when contrasting your inebriation and my sobriety. I wouldn’t want to take advantage of you.” She couldn’t help but let a small chuckle escape her lips. “But the third…well, that could be interesting, wouldn’t it? I do have a soft spot for butterbeer with ginger.”Oh, hell yes. TAGS: Linus! WORDS: 452 WEARING: Click!NOTES: I can’t wait for new Amelia to break out of her shell completely. Linus could easily continue talking without any reply from Amelia, that much he knew. His mother always told him he could talk to a wall. Frankly, Linus found that talking to himself was much more pleasant. People viewed him as crazier when he talked to a wall. Or was it the other way round? The Hufflepuff couldn't recall at this moment. He was quite fascinated by the blush on Amelia's face. “No thank you required. That's a fact. The fact that you're thanking me is proof of that. But why are you blushing? Are you under emotional stress?” Linus asked, because that was the only cause of blushing his mind was processing right now. “Am I putting you under emotional stress? Well, lucky I have no fear of blushing. It's called...” Linus twisted his lips to his left as he tried to remember what the fear was called. “No idea what it's called. Although, I suppose I'm not the one who's to have that fear. It should be you. Hmm.” He pondered, before shrugging and giving up on his train of thought completely.
“Alright then? That's all you have to say? Tsk tsk.” Linus shook his head. “It's not everyday I offer to mentor someone.” He said seriously, before grinning at her. “It'll be fun, Amy! You'll have fun.” Linus nodded. He had continued talking for a bit, and was expecting an answer from Amelia. Several answers, actually. The redness of her face was not disappearing. He had been quite straightforward. Maybe she was going to run away because she thought he was creepy. No, Linus shook his head slightly. The younger girl wouldn't have helped him at all if she thought he was creepy. Why did he even think she would think he was creepy?
There was a silence that fell between them, but only because Amelia seemed to be taking her time to answer him. When she started talking, Linus looked at her. Even in his current state, he thought she was pretty. This was the umpteenth time the thought had crossed his mind. Perhaps that was why he asked her out on a date. Or tried to. He tilted his head to the side as she said her first word. She was rejecting the idea of a hug. Who rejected hugs? Even if they were out of place. She rejected a kiss, on the grounds that it was inappropriate. But, she did agree to the date. “First of all, who rejects hugs?” Linus said, wrapping his hands around her for a quick hug as he said that. “Want another?” He asked, smiling slightly before he continued. “Advantage of me? Girl, you have got that wrong... Not that I'm going to be taking advantage of you. Nope. Feel free to slap me if I do.” The Hufflepuff told her. “And lastly, butterbeer with ginger eh? Sounds... lovely.” He said, his tone indicating that he didn't think so. But only because he hadn't tried it. “Okay! So we shall go on this date and you can extract me out of tight spots when there is a need. Brilliant. So glad we've reached a compromise, Amy.”

CAUSE YOU CAN’T KEEP A SECRET Wondering how drunk he really was, Amelia, who was completely sober, simultaneously tried to keep up with every word coming out of his mouth. It was much more fun for her to listen to him than have to think of something to say. Because it wasn’t only thinking of something to say, it was thinking about how to say it, how to stand while she did, if she should smile or not, and a multitude of other very dramatic, girly, over-thinking aspects. She couldn’t even avoid those things by not talking! He was pointing out the rising pink in her cheeks, and she resisted the urge to have her hands jump up to her face, smiling awkwardly instead, her eyes trailing the ground by her shoes. Mentor? Her eyebrows tilted in a little and the skin between her eyes scrunched up in confusion, but subtly. That certainly sounded interesting. The hot, male captain of the quidditch team mentoring an awkward, fifth year female on the ways of the world…or alcohol at least. As soon as he said her name, though, it didn’t sound as bad as it had earlier. She rather liked when he said her name, and it was even her true name. A cutesy nickname he’d just decided to pick up. How sweet. Her reserve melted without her having a say in the matter. She was instantly pressed to his chest, her arms pinned to her sides by his strong arms. Actually, she couldn’t tell if she was just extremely weak (probably). It was most likely due to her being frozen in place, her eyes bugging out as she had no choice but to inhale his smooth scent. When he pulled away and offered another, her lips parted as if to answer, though she had no idea what to say. Yes, would be ideal, but forming words was still rather difficult. She didn’t need to worry about it- he’d already gone off again. Her mind was going through too many changes to handle, and Amelia was quite certain that she was going to fall over if she tried too hard to control her actions and responses. Linus seemed to have a dizzying effect on her, not just from the mile-a-minute speech and ridiculous topics. She smiled a little, crossly almost, at his response. Running a hand through her blonde hair, she tried to straighten up a little, blinking a couple times. So they were doing on a date. Not just spending time together…he’d called it a date. The last thing she’d expected to come out of the day with was a date with Linus Longbottom, who, before this evening, she’d never uttered a word to. She was saved from a response once again by the sound of footsteps coming from behind her. She whirled around, and could see a growing wand light on the wall. Someone was heading down the corridor from the other side, and they were about to turn the corner. “No time like the present!” she yelped quietly, grabbing him by the wrist and dragging him along behind her as she ran towards the stairs, as fast as she could run in heels and with a drunk person in tow. Her heels clacked nervously on the stone as they wound their way down the manual stairs to the sixth floor, but she didn’t bother stopping until they’d run down another corridor and turned the corner once more into a small hallway. She yanked Linus around the corner with her, pinning their backs to the wall to avoid being seen. “Do you think they followed us?” she whispered, her hand still gripping his wrist rather tightly. If Linus wasn’t drunk, he’d have let Amelia have at least a chance to reply his questions. As it was, it was one sentence or question after the other. He also would have known better than to hug her. Some people had no qualms about hugging a random stranger. But how was he to know that Amy wasn’t one of them? She might appear sweet but appearances were deceiving. She might have a strong slapping hand. But it turned out Amelia didn’t protest much to his hug. Then again, she didn’t answer when he asked if she wanted another. So perhaps she wasn’t sold on his hugs. He would have to change that.
The Huffleuff was about to suggest they head back to the common room when Amelia pulled him away. “Ahhhh.” Linus said confusedly as he followed her. Was there someone else? Apparently there was. Linus hadn’t seen anything. Besides, she was a Prefect. What the heck was she afraid of? Sure, she was a fifth year but she was a Prefect nonetheless! “No time like the present, indeed.” Linus muttered to himself. He wasn’t resisting running along with Amelia, but considering he’d just fallen over on his head and was drunk, running didn’t seem like a very good idea.
When they went down the stairs, Linus thought he might just tumble and pull Amelia down with him and they’d both die a horrible death and come back as ghosts. One foot in front of the other, Longbottom. Linus thought to himself, looking down at his feet. Oh, bad idea. He fixed his gaze at the blonde in front of him and admired her hair. Yes, that was a good thing to focus on. He might just puke all over her heels, the ones that were making what seemed to be a loud noise in the empty corridor. “Ahhh.” Linus muttered again as Amelia pinned her back to the wall. He did the same, even though he’d much prefer to be pinned against something softer.
“First of all,” Linus whispered back. “You’re a bloody Prefect. Why did you even run? B, you have a rather tight grip for a tiny creature.” He gestured with his free hand towards the one that was held hostage by Amelia. “Three…” Linus paused, not really sure there was a third thing he wanted to say. “Why would anyone be following us? If they’re out of bed after hours, they would have no reason to. Also, if they had a light out, they’re being idiots if they’re trying to sneak around the castle.” The male said. “D, you’re going to have to lead me back to the common room because I’m afraid I’ve lost all sense of my bearing after you dragged me around like a toy and broke me.” Linus told her, smiling faintly.

CAUSE YOU CAN’T KEEP A SECRET It was stressful enough having to keep up a conversation with a very drunk Linus Longbottom. Why did someone have to be sneaking around the castle? She wasn’t on duty and didn’t have her robes, so her prefect badge was far away, six more flights down from the floor they were on now. She heard Linus muttering next to her, and her eyes bugged out a little bit. She could get in so much trouble if she was caught out of bed on a night she wasn’t on duty with a very drunk seventh year boy! Completely disregarding all sense of personal space and modesty, Amelia turned herself quickly, pressing her body up against Linus’ so that she was farther away from the corner, and also pressed a hand hard against his mouth. In the silence that followed, she didn’t hear anything. It seemed that they’d gotten away. Waiting another moment, Amelia finally let out a little exhale of relief, removing her hand from Linus’ mouth, taking a quick step backward so that he was no longer pinned between the wall and her small frame. A blush very typical of her shot up through her cheeks. She had not just done that. And off he was again, with more points than necessary. Despite the blush still reddening her cheeks, she was starting to feel a bit more comfortable around him. Bucking up some of the courage from before, mixed with her complete exasperation, she answered each of his points. “Why did I run? What if that was a teacher? I’m off duty, and you’re a mess. You would’ve gotten in trouble. Isn’t that my new charge, to keep you out of trouble?” She rolled her eyes and let out an exasperated sigh, then continued, ignoring his comment about her unusually tight grip. “Did you hear what I just said? What if it was a Professor? And…oh, well, yes it seems I’m going to have to.”Amelia resisted rolling her eyes again, and grabbed his arm, tugging him away from the wall. She looped her small arm around his waist just in case he decided he wanted to take a nap or stumble about on the way down the stairs. She grabbed the wrist of his other arm and put it firmly about her shoulders. “Right…down the stairs we go,” she said faintly, a little overwhelmed at the position she’d found herself in, but an instinct kicking in to keep her head high and in charge until he was safely in bed, at which time she could go to hers and kick herself to sleep at how ridiculous everything she’d said could possibly be. Linus wasn't thinking. Of course he wasn't. But if he was, he might be thinking how this was a very bad position that they had found themselves in. How being out after curfew with a younger Prefect and him being drunk was a bad bad idea. He wasn't even paying attention to Amelia now, until she decided to hug him. Well, she wasn't hugging him. More like... flattened herself on him. Linus started to speak, but found his mouth covered with her hand. Apparently she knew he had something to say about this. And he did. Like how he had just been wishing he had something softer to be pinned against. But it would be quite rude to tell her that her body was soft. Right? Right. Certainly not the best way to inform a girl of that.
So Linus remained still, until Amelia seemed to be pleased that no one was following them. After the blonde removed her hand, Linus took in a deep breath. “Another second more and you might have needed to give me mouth to mouth.” He commented, noting the blush that had already crept into her cheeks. Oh, this one liked to blush. Very cute, very cute indeed. He attempted to get rid of thoughts that proceeded after he usually kissed someone. Although, now that he was thinking about he, Linus found himself looking at Amelia closely. After a moment, he caught himself and coughed, with the sound echoing in the hallway. “Oops.” He muttered.
When Amelia answered, Linus couldn't help but laugh at her annoyance. He couldn't help it. He laughed when people got irritated at him. “Yes, your new duty. Very smart, Amy.” Linus said, nodding his head. “I am a hot mess.” He spoke, continuing with the nods. “Pah. Professors.” Linus said, making a vague hand gesture that didn't mean anything. “My father's a Professor...” He pointed out, although he was quite sure Amelia got that already.
The Hufflepuff willingly went with Amelia as she pulled him away from the wall. When she placed her arm around him and draped his hand around her shoulder, Linus chuckled. “Merlin, you are tiny.” Linus was quite tall and everyone was tiny to him. If he was sober, he'd realise that Amelia was actually the average height for females. “Down the stairs. Don't fall, Amy. Falling down the stairs isn't very nice. You get bruises on your face, cuts on your arms... oh, your ankle might get twisted. Not fun at all.” Linus told her, relating his own experience with falling down a flight of stairs.
