General History: Firstly, before we start off with anything else, let's talk about my name. It's Schuyler, spelled like S-C-H-U-Y-L-E-R. Yeah, I know it's a weird name. Trust me, I know. I've heard everything under the sun when people try and pronounce my name. Shy-ler. Shoe-ler. But no, it's definitely pronounced like Sky-ler. It used to bother the shit out of me as a kid, but eventually I grew up and got over it. I really like my name now. I had even gone through a period in my life where I went by my middle name, Nolan, but then I realized how stupid that was, because let's face it, do I look like a Nolan? Most people call me Sky, because that's quite easy to say, but I often get called Schoo, like Shoe, which is okay with me, And if you're a certain best friend, Schooey, to be a jerk. I don't particularly care for that one, but he doesn't seem to care that I can beat him up, with my pinkie finger. Anyway, that's my spiel about my name, shall we get on to the real history?
I was the first child born to my parents, Adam and Amelia Walker. Their history was simple. They met, they fell in love. I don't ask too many questions, because to be quite honest I don't care. I do know that they didn't meet until they were older, my father about 31, my mother 27. They waited about three years, then were married. I cam two years later, my little brother not even a year after me, and then my sister when I was 8. My sister wasn't planned, it was really only supposed to be Grayson and I, but we'll get to that later.
Life was good for the first few years of my childhood. My parents doted on Grayson and me. We were their pride and joys, irish twins. I never thought about the fact that my parents had us so close together, because I had a built in best friend. At least until we were five. We weren't spoiled toddlers, we fought over our toys, divided our room into halves we thought belonged to us. I can't really remember what happened, but in a way I know it was my fault. We lived in a small muggle neighborhood. Our parents wanted us to have friends that weren't just each other, so we had lots of neighbor friends. Apparently we lived in a neighborhood full of babyboomers or something.
When we were five, Gray and I had been riding our bikes with the neighbors. I honestly don't remember their names, we moved not long after the accident. My parents could never talk about it, at least not for a while. We weren't allowed to cross the highways. They were too busy, but the other kids were teasing us. We didn't want to look like babies, so we decided to follow them. I guess we hadn't really learned to look both ways before crossing the street, because we definitely didn't. The point of the story is I made it all the way across, but Gray didn't. He was killed instantly, no magic could bring him back.
My parents were devastated. They hadn't lost their only child, but they had lost one, and that was enough. I was no longer allowed to play with the muggle neighbors. We moved not long after, unable to face the street he died on. I can't remember feeling sad. I was so young, I honestly just didn't understand Grayson was never coming back. My mother got rid of my bike. I didn't want to ride it anymore anyway. The next three years were rough. My mom barely changed out of her pajamas, never left the house. Dad supported us, but he was the only one making money. They didn't seem to love each other anymore, but I guess they still did, because after three years of sorrow, joy was brought back to them.
My little sister was born when I was eight. She didn't get to know Gray, but she'd always been told about him. He was still her brother after all. It really helped my parents that she was born. They needed someone there to take care of, not that they weren't taking care of me, because they were. I was still a kid, I needed my parents. But she was a baby. She needed them more. My mother had gotten out of her depression, but we were held on short leashes. It took a lot of prodding and convincing for her to let us go. When I went to Hogwarts she locked herself in her room again. She knew I had to go, but she didn't like it.
When I got into Hogwarts I was sorted into Gryffindor. I wasn't sure what made me so brave that I belonged in Gryffindor. I didn't feel brave, but the sorting hat seemed to feel otherwise I suppose. I excelled in Gryffindor, joining the Quidditch team my third year, but I didn't want to go into anything to do with Quidditch. I loved care of magical creatures as a student, and I loved the entire grounds of Hogwarts. By the time I had to graduate, I didn't want to leave. I was offered the groundskeeper job a year after graduation, and I gladly accepted. It gave me a home and a job doing things I loved.
