No, in fact, it was the kind of situation that made the word crazy seem like an understatement, because that could mean anything from mild emotional turmoil to complete disaster. This was definitely more along the lines of the latter. It was almost strange to think about that two years ago, before Victoire left, everything had been just fine. Then she’d left, and Teddy had started dating Alicia, a fellow auror who had always had a bit of a crush on him. That had never been supposed to turn into anything serious. For him, she had been a rebound. Then she’d gotten pregnant, which she hadn’t intended either, but they’d agreed to keep the child and they had made it work somehow.
Now Alicia was dead. It had been four months, and he was raising their daughter by himself. Well, he wasn’t all alone, considering he had friends and family who were happy to help him out, but that wasn’t the same at all. Nymphadora had lost her mother while she was still learning to crawl properly. Teddy knew what that was like, in a way. He’d never known either one of his parents. That wasn’t something he usually thought about often, but it had occurred to him more often now that he was raising a child himself. That was also part of the reason why, even though things were difficult right now, he was able to keep reminding himself that everything was going to be all right. They were going to be fine.
It was late afternoon and the sun had already set by the time his shift was done. There hadn’t been a lot to do today, just a whole lot of paperwork and some investigation, which was almost a bit of a relief. Nymphadora was staying at Andromeda’s tonight. Despite now being seventy years old, the woman was more than happy to look after her great-granddaughter, and today, she’d even insisted. Teddy knew better than to argue with her by now, so he had agreed. He wasn’t used to not rushing home to his daughter the moment he got off work anymore, though, so for a while, he found himself just wandering around Diagon Alley. He supposed he could owl some friends, ask if they wanted to go grab a firewhiskey or something of the sort, but he decided against it. He wasn’t really in the mood to see them tonight.
There was really only one person he actually wanted to talk to, but he wasn’t sure where she was at the moment. He’d been told that Victoire had been transferred back to England fairly recently, but he hadn’t spoken to her. They’d probably been working at different times as well, because he hadn’t seen her around the office. Truth be told, he didn’t know what he was going to say when he did speak to her. Sure, they had already broken up and she was in France when he started dating Alicia, but he still felt guilty about it, in a way. He hadn’t been able to tell her in person that Alicia had gotten pregnant either, and just sending an owl had seemed, well, a little inappropriate. That was what he had done anyway because he needed to tell Vic somehow, but it hadn’t felt right. He hadn’t really spoken to her much since then.
After a while, he decided to head to The Leaky Cauldron and grab a drink by himself before going home. It would be nice, in a way, to get a full night’s sleep without being woken up by Nymphadora’s crying in the middle of the night. He adored his daughter, of course, but she did make his life more stressful. Entering the inn, he headed straight towards the bar and bought a firewhiskey, not really bothering to look around to see if anyone he knew was there. ( NOTES ) strange post. |

Victoire was sitting alone at a table that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages at The Leaky Cauldon. Staring at the table as if it had offended her, the blonde took out her wand and with a flick, made the table look like it had undergone various rounds of polishing. Now it stood out from the rest of the tables. Oh well, it would have to deal with being clean. Victoire crossed her legs, before picking up her mug of Butterbeer and taking a sip. She had only just recently started work again, after a few weeks of travelling. They needed someone doing night patrols in some villages and Vic had been stuck there for a week now. They promised she would be off it soon. Vic thought it wouldn’t be too soon. Why was she being assigned to do this when there were surely better uses for her abilities?
But for every four nights she worked, she got the rest of the week off. That was a good payoff, in her opinion. That was a main reason why she was here. After four whole nights of not sleeping, her body refused go to bed. Of course, it was still some time from her bed time. But she knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight. The blonde took another gulp, nearly choking when she saw one Teddy Lupin head for the bar. She licked her lips, before staring at his back, making sure it was him. Yes, it was. She would know him anywhere. Even if she had her memory obliviated, Victoire was quite sure she would still know him somehow.
Part of the reason why she came back here was because of Teddy. Well, Teddy and his daughter. It pained her to say those words out loud and she hadn’t done so. Mostly because she had avoided talking about that subject to any family member. But if she went up to Teddy right now, she would have to talk about it. If she didn’t, it was just going to be the elephant in the room. The very huge elephant. Victoire sunk lower in her seat, wondering why she didn’t have the ability to change her appearance at will, like the man she loved had. Did she want to go over? The blonde wasn’t usually this hesitant. But Teddy just made her act contrary to how she normally was. Sitting back straight up, Victoire conjured up a mirror, checked that she looked presentable (more like beautiful) and took a deep breath. “Hey Teddy!” She called out, just loud enough for him to hear, judging from the distance. She didn’t need everyone turning to look at her. She prepared a smile for when he turned over, one not too small but not too excited. She was going to be over thinking her every move tonight.

He didn’t usually drink much. Well, of course he didn’t, these days, since he was so busy with work and Nymphadora and everything, but he never had been much of a drinker. He liked having fun, but had always preferred remembering it the morning after. Tonight, though, he needed a firewhiskey. He wasn’t about to get drunk or even close to it, but he needed to relax. That wasn’t something he did enough these days. He was still not among the most stressed-out people in the world, generally speaking, but he was pretty sure he had enough reason to be right now.
Lost in his own thoughts as he was, he wasn’t entirely sure if he really had heard a very familiar voice call his name. He turned to check immediately, though, and soon realized that it hadn’t been just a figment of his imagination. Sitting there with her gorgeous long legs crossed, golden hair and enticing smile, was the one and only Victoire Weasley. For a brief moment, he wondered if his mind was playing tricks on him, if he’d just spent so much time thinking about her that he was imagining that she was here. Logically, though, he knew that couldn’t be the case. She was here, and she had talked to him – which he wouldn’t really have blamed her for not doing, all things considered.
He only hesitated for a quarter of a second before picking up his drink and heading towards her table, which seemed unusually clean compared to the rest of the furniture there. ”Hello, Vic,” he said, smiling faintly at her. ”Aunt Ginny told me you were back in London.” He really should have contacted Victoire earlier, he realized that, but he didn’t know what to say. He still didn’t know what to say. She was somehow even more breathtaking now than he remembered her. He couldn’t just stand there staring at her like an idiot either, though. ”Can I sit, or are you waiting for someone?” He hoped not. Even though he’d been the first one of them to start dating again (as far as he knew), he was pretty sure he still couldn’t deal with seeing her with someone else. ( NOTES )<3 |

Was this going to be awkward? Probbably. It wasn’t that they didn’t end things off on a good note. Well, Victoire had broke up with him, perhaps that wasn’t such a good way to end things with someone she had feelings for since her teenage years. But still, it wasn’t because of the break up. Victoire could deal with a simple break up. It was the fact that he had a girlfriend and a child with her. And the girlfriend was dead now. Victoire didn’t know what was worse. That she couldn’t be mad at the other woman or that Teddy’s daughter was motherless, just like how Teddy had been. She gave him a smile back as he came towards her.
“Yeah, I’ve been back a couple of weeks.” Victoire said, looking at Teddy. The fact that he had a daughter still astounded her. Vic didn’t think she was going to truly believe that fact until she saw the daughter herself. She knew she wouldn’t be able to bring herself to hate the little girl. How could she? Victoire couldn’t imagine growing up without her mother. Victoire nearly let out an unladylike snort when Teddy asked if he could sit. “Sure, you can sit. I’m not meeting anyone.” She said, gesturing towards the seat opposite her.
The blonde noted the drink in Teddy’s hands. “Bad day?” She asked, glancing at him once more. Being this close to him in years, Victoire had the urge to lean forward, kiss him senseless and ask him to tell her that he hadn’t started dating another auror and had a baby with her. She had enough sense not to do that. “I’m sorry.” She blurted out. She wasn’t sorry for leaving him, even if she might feel a tinge of regret for not trying to attempt a long distance relationship. But what she’d done over in France was what she wanted to and she didn’t regret going over. “That your daughter doesn’t have a mother.” Victoire continued. “She’s with Andromeda now?” Vic asked. For there was no way Teddy would be here with a drink in his hand if his daughter wasn’t being looked after.
