It was strange to think that this would be his last year at Hogwarts. He’d grown so much as a person and a Keeper. Jesse Creevey stood in the astronomy tower, looking out to the lake at sunset, his arms resting along the railing that prevented students and teachers from falling to the ground below. He had the sleeves of the plaid overshirt he was wearing pushed up to just below his elbows. Summer had changed him, and in a good way. The bracelet on his wrist reminded him of it, he met a girl over the summer. She was a muggle from what he understood, but she was stunning. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t develop feelings for this girl, but he never would get to ever be with her. She was from a totally different world than what he was from. Besides, she’d be going off to University after she graduated from school and he would… well he had no idea. He could go work for the Daily Prophet, but he hated that trash. Could he make it in the world of professional Quidditch? Probably not, he was good, but he wasn’t that good.
A soft sigh escaped his soft lips as the cool breeze from the lake tousseled his already messy blonde hair. He imaged that even his brat little brothers figured out what they were going to do once they were done school. He knew his dad wanted him to get into something with photography, but Jesse wasn’t sure if that was his path in life, he just didn’t know. Yeah, he had a year to figure it out, but a year was very little time, especially if you had to know what you needed to do with your life by the end of it. He wasn’t clever enough to be an Auror, and he didn’t exactly want to work for the Ministry. He just didn’t know and it drove him mad, not knowing what to do. Jesse turned so his back was leaning against the railing, his mind wandered all over the place. Then he realized that right now, he just needed to worry about the present and not the future. Easier said than done though, he’d always worry about what was to come in the near future.
Then he wondered about the girl he met over the summer. He remembered the long walks in the park, the moonlit nights where she’d stolen her parents liquor and met him under the willow tree. He remembered the kiss under the bridge and the fight they had a few days before he had to come back here. Being the hopeless romantic he is, he spent the night on her front porch steps, needless to say, they made up that morning. It brought a light smile to his face as he shoved his hands into his pockets. His dad did tell him to maybe not get that close to someone who was a muggle, but he didn’t feel the need to listen to him. His grandparents were muggles, but they were both muggles. Jesse was a wizard and the girl was a muggle. No magic. He sighed again, he missed her. Truly he did.

Xander stared at the steps of the Astronomy tower in disdain. He knew his brother would probably be at the top, lost in thought, but he wasn’t completely sure. He didn’t know if it was worth the climb but he took the risk anyways. His day had been good so far, although it was lacking a certain Creevey brother. He wouldn’t admit how much he loved his brother, but he was convinced he knew Jesse better than anyone. He remembered playing improvised Quidditch games in their backyard as kids, although they couldn’t use actual Quidditch supplies or flying broomsticks, incase their muggle neighbors saw.
His memories with his brother were fond but a certain distance was put between them when they entered Hogwarts. Xander didn’t want to only be known as Jesse Creevey’s little brother, he wanted his own identity. He was afraid the other students would think that he was a baby, spending all of his time with his older brother. He didn’t need Jesse to protect him and he wanted everyone else to know that. By the time Alexander’s feet reached the top of the tower, he caught a glance of a blonde head that could only belong to a Jesse Creevey.
Xander hadn’t inherited his father’s blonde hair, although he did share eyes like his brother. He leaned against the wall as he examined Jesse. He was lost in thought, like Xander had predicted. The sun gleamed off the black lake as it slowly settled behind the forbidden forest. ”You know you could have picked a better thinking spot,” Xander said lightheartedly. ”Those stairs are a pain in the ass.” He noticed a somber-looking expression cast across his brother’s face. ”I know that face, what’s eating you? Are you still thinking about whatshername?

“Y-yeah, but anywhere else doesn’t have the v-view like here does.” He grinned at his brother. The only way you could really tell these two were related was their eyes. The brilliant blue eyes was what the two brothers shared. It never surprised Jesse that Xander would know where he was. That was something he’d miss once he was gone from the school. He was always keeping a watchful eye on Xander and his twin, but he kept a distance, really only stepping in on something when it seemed to be getting too out of hand. He loved his little brothers and really wasn’t afraid to admit that either, he just kept the brotherly love low while at school. Jesse laughed a bit, “i-if you didn’t get l-lazy over the summer, the stairs w-wouldn’t be a pain in the ass.” He grinned. There was that stupid stutter though, it was better than it was the year before. Normally it was every word he found himself stuttering, but slowly, it was fading away.
Jesse moved to cross his arms over his chest as he leaned back against the railing, a bit more relxed. He glanced over at Xander and shrugged. He wasn’t sure if he was going to get his mind, “Raelyn,” he corrected him when he called her whatshername, then nodded faintly, “Her, a-and what I’m going to d-do with my life after I g-graduate.” He admitted. He hadn’t really talked about that with anyone except his dad. He wasn’t sure if he should talk about it with Xander. He was always closer to him than he was his other brother, it was just how he was. The makeshift Quidditch games to the late nights finding the star constellations when they were younger, it was just something that he and Xander shared. It was the little things like that, that truly made him wonder just what the hell he was going to do with his life. Would he stay close enough to still keep an eye out on his brothers? Or would he venture off to the unknown and try to live a life for himself and only send an owl every now and then?
The breeze was becoming cooler as the sun started to slowly vanish into the darkness of twilight. That really was his favorite time of day, twilight. It was so peaceful, so beautiful. It truly inspired many of his poems, that barely anyone got to see, except Raelyn, she was able to see them because he trusted her. “B-besides, she’s one of the f-few people, girls, who have m-made the effort to talk to me.” He admitted sheepishly. It was like, when a girl saw him, they wanted to know him, but they gave up when they heard him speak. He tried to shake the almost sad expression on his face. He wasn’t one to like showing if he was upset by past events, but that was how he was, he couldn’t help it. Jesse looked back up at Xander, “h-how’s your first week back here been?” he hadn’t really had much time to talk to Xander between Quidditch, his Prefect duties and oh, that thing called homework. He prayed that the rest of the year wouldn’t be as busy at this first week had been.

Xander laughed at Jesse’s joke. Even with his stutter Jesse was the funniest person Xander knew. Even his so-called ‘popular’ friends didn’t measure up to his older brother. Xander’s summer hadn’t been as eventful as Jesse’s; he didn’t meet a girl or hang out with friends. The biggest thing that happened was his father getting mad at him for finding drugs in his dresser drawer. Xander had been playing dealer over the summer and when his dad found out he was on lockdown for the rest of the break. Sure he had his twin and Jesse, but not being able to leave the house was a hell all its own.
The night he was busted was crazy, although luckily Jesse was out with Raelyn. No matter how many times Jesse told Xander her name he always forgot. On the night their dad went through his dresser, Xander came home like any other day to find his mom and dad seated in the living room. It was intervention-like, but Xander refused to listen and shut himself up in his room. The reminder of his summer was spent playing video games, studying and working out. It was ironic that Jesse was thinking about what to do after graduation, because his encounter with Cassandra prompted the same exact question.
”It’s been sort of hectic, although probably not as much as yours,” Alexander responded nonchalantly. ”It’s nice to have a little bit of freedom. I met up with Cassandra though, you know Linus’ little sister? He didn’t know if he’d give Jesse all the information just yet. ”And I’ve been thinking about that too, what I do after I graduated, I mean.”. He didn’t want to continue talking about the subject, but it was bothering Jesse. He would say that he didn’t know what he wanted to do, but he did. ”And ideas about your future?”

That was probably true beyond belief. Jesse wasn’t even sure if anyone could have a more hectic first week than he did. He knew about what happened between Xander and his dad, he knew all too well. Jesse kept his mouth shut about it, granted it did take every ounce of strength he had to not roughly grab him by the front of the shirt, and give him a good shake while yelling and lecturing him, but he figured his dad did enough of that and being grounded for the summer was punishment enough. He did however, not speak to Xander for a few days, truly angry with his brother for doing something that stupid. Jesse laughed a bit, “I-I’ve barely had t-time to breathe with how b-busy this week has b-been.” He looked over at his brother. So that’s the girl he’s been spending time with, Linus’s little sister. Jesse really should have seen it coming, but didn’t. He had nothing against her, he liked Linus and therefore, he liked his sister.
Jesse did bite back a comment that would have been something along the lines of if you hadn’t been so foolish as to have drugs and get caught, you would have had more freedom, but being the good brother he was, he kept it to himself. “I s-suppose after your lockdown summer, b-being back here is probably the best thing that’s h-happened.” He looked back up at his brother after finding interest in the floor. He pushed his hand through his blonde hair. “O-of course I know who s-she is. Great girl.” He smiled a bit, honestly wondering if Xander had any feelings for her, “D-d'you like her?” he asked, almost bluntly, but with a little grin, letting him know he was just teasing. Jesse knew that if Xander wanted him to know how he felt about Cassandra, then he’d let him know. That’s just how they’ve been, if something was on the other’s mind, then they’d let each other know if they really wanted to let the other person know. Hell, there were things that Jesse still kept from him.
As he shoved his hands in his pockets again, he chewed on his lip and shrugged, “I-I really couldn’t tell you,” he said honestly, blue eyes meeting blue eyes, “E-everything I’ve thought o-of just seems to h-have something that I d-don’t like.” He admitted, “I know f-for a fact that d-dad wants me to t-take after Uncle Colin and a-attempt to get somewhere w-with my photography s-skills, but I just dunno y-yet.” He sighed. “D’you have a-any ideas yet? About w-what you want to do?” he asked. This wasn’t exactly a light topic to discuss. It was a deep one because they were basically discussing what they were going to make of their lives. “I-it’s strange to have to think that i-it’s my last year here.” He admitted quietly. He’d been excited for his graduating year and not having to worry about school ever again, but then again, Hogwarts was all he really knew, that and how to keep a watchful eye on his younger siblings. He almost had the same feeling her had when he first got his letter to come to Hogwarts. He felt like he’d be lacking in the job of keeping an eye on them and keeping them safe.

As Jesse talked, Xander turned his front to watch the black lake. He listened to his brother talk, he had barely mentioned Xander’s lockdown and hearing him even mention it brought a strange feeling to his gut. The days that Jesse wasn’t talking to him were the worst. He wondered how his brother would react to finding out about Xander’s previous adventures; he would be angry, that was for sure. Would he tell his father? Or the professors? Jesse wasn’t really the tattletale type, but drugs and partying was a different topic that came with a different Jesse. He wanted to tell him about the parties and the girls but he’d have to keep that to himself.
”Yeah, I guess” He responded apathetically, shrugging his shoulders. He still wasn’t sure of his exact feelings for Cassandra and he’d let Jesse know if they were more than the usual infatuation once he figured it out. Jesse and Xander talked about girls often, but Xander didn’t usually let his brother know how much he really slept around. He didn’t like having so many secrets from his older brother but he was sure Jesse had a few skeletons in his closet as well.
”I know the feeling.”. He leaned against the stone and put his face in his hands. He was a little more distraught about where his life was heading then he let on. He felt that he was running into a dark tunnel with no ends or outlets although Jesse’s mentality seemed to be heading in the same direction. Xander could always try out for the National Quidditch team but he didn’t feel that he was passionate enough to live a life completely built off the sport. ”No, no idea” Xander lied. Jesse would probably catch on to his lie but he wasn’t sure if he’d bring it up. When Jesse talked about his last year, Xander froze. One of the last things Xander wanted was for his older brother to leave. His face dropped and he shoved his hands in his pockets in the same manner as Jesse. ”I guess you’re lucky then” he said falsely. He was trying to cheer his brother up but he didn’t know how. The thought never occurred to him that next year he would have to go months without seeing his older brother. Maybe you should travel around before you decide on a career” he suggested. He hadn’t heard of a lot of students doing that, but Jesse was more artistically motivated than Xander, maybe he could become a famous poet.
”Or we could both go into Professional Quidditch and be the next brother duo.” He smiled playfully; he never considered them both going into Quiddditch together; that would be amazing. What he would really love was for them to both become Auror’s together, but Xander was filled with so much doubt.

He glanced over at his brother. Ever since the event that summer, he had felt like Xander had been keeping more than just the drug dealing a secret from him. Granted, there were certainly parts of his life that he truly didn’t want to know about. Yeah Jesse had secrets that he couldn’t tell anyone, like his sexual confusion. He just didn’t know. Don’t get him wrong, he loved girls and he loved well, the whole making love bit to a girl, but he was constantly checking out guys, discreetly of course. You think he’d be comfortable telling his brother that, but he wasn’t. He and Xander talked about girls more than any normal person would, so he’d just continue to let him think he was straight. A tiny smile crossed over the older Creevey’s lips at his brother’s tone, and Jesse simply took that as either Xander wasn’t ready to come out with how he felt or he really didn’t feel anything towards her. He couldn’t see why he wouldn’t feel anything towards her though, she was beautiful and she was a sweetheart.
As small frown overcame his features when he saw Xander put his face in his hands and it literally took everything he had to not pull him into a hug, like he did when they were little and something had upset him. That was just how he was, he was there to make whatever had upset his younger brother’s go away. He always did whatever he could to make sure that they’d be happy and feel safe. “I-I just, I feel like I-I’m being pushed in s-so many directions with w-what to do once I’m done s-school that I-I feel like I’ve c-come to a dead end and have n-no way of getting out of i-it.” He admitted softly. The truth was, thinking about which path to take made him want to scream. He saw through the lie Xander told to him, and bit his lip, frowning a bit. “And here I th-thought you’d have this all f-figured out by now.” He smiled faintly, which quickly faded back to the frown when he saw his brother freeze after he mentioned it being his last year at Hogwarts, “You alright?” he asked, concerned now. Then he realized why he froze, or he thought he did. Did he freeze at the comment because he didn’t want to have to spend ten months away from one and other?
He gave a fake almost laugh, “Y-yeah, lucky me.” He muttered, now noticing the two had the same stance. Leaving his family alone, was a horrid thought. He hated the idea, and yet the idea would have to come true eventually. Jesse bit his lip then looked at Xander, “I th-think travelling before I d-decide is a bloody b-brilliant idea.” And that it was. If he travelled, he could still spend time close to his brothers by visiting Hogsmeade often and hey, he could even be home for Christmases and be here for birthdays. That truly was a brilliant plan. A soft smile creeped across his lips at the thought of them becoming profession Quidditch players together, “I really like that. Maybe once you’re done, we’ll have to see how it goes.” He grinned, “or we could travel together once you’re done. I could work someone just as a job to pay the rent.” He shrugged, he wouldn’t mind that. He was certain he could find work after school, he could work for a year and then take a year off to travel with his little brother.

”I know what you mean,” Xander said solemnly. He didn’t see this side of his brother often. Xander tried his hardest to make sure he wasn’t vulnerable to anyone although Jesse was the one exception. Even if Xander had his game face on, Jesse could see right through it. Jesse was the ideal older brother and Xander couldn’t imagine his life without him. ”Me? Have it figured out? When have you known me to be that smart? He joked, trying to lighten the mood.”If anyone would have had it figured out it would be you, you’re the smartest of the three of us.”
”I may not be the brightest, but my ideas certainly shine.” Xander grinned and elbowed his brother playfully. Most of the time he had terrible ideas that ended in bruises and blood, like the time he thought that trying to jump off one broomstick to another was a great idea or when he attempted to surf in the black lake. Occasionally he had good ideas, but it was a rare occurrence. “Yeah, I guess I have another year to really decide. I can’t wait for Quidditch to start again this year, though. I have a few new tricks up my sleeve I’d like to see the other teams counter.”
Although he was a great Quidditch player, he had almost no sense of fear and would attempt anything. On several instances Xander had pulled a move that was incredibly risky that cost him a stern talking to from the team captain. The strict lectures and detention never stopped him however, if he saw an opportunity he took it. Quidditch was a dangerous sport, why not embrace the risk? Of course Xander had had his injuries from Quidditch, the Hogwart’s nurse knew him well. It seemed his brothers were never as reckless as Xander was, sometimes he felt as though he didn’t fit what a Creevey was supposed to be. It seemed most of the people in his family were gentle, eager and energetic, Xander was energetic but he was also rough, irresponsible and wild.

As he looked up at his brother, thoughts swarmed his head. He really should have his life figured out by now, but he had nothing yet. Jesse was just lost and confused and in a way, scared. How hard should it really have been to decide what he wanted to do with his life? Why was he so hurt to think that he’d be leaving his little brother’s behind? Maybe it was because throughout his, life, Jesse’d protected them from everything and anything that he could. They were also his support beams. If he lost one or both of them, he just would fall apart. They were literally his lifeline. His blue eyes looked down and back out towards the dark water. Even with Xander, he’d constantly kept his true feelings for his family well hidden in his heart and chest. He was afraid, afraid that someone would find out and then they’d get hurt in the end. It was always his biggest fear really, that something would happen to his family and he wouldn’t ever be able to stop it. And that scared him more than anything.
“Y-you always s-seem to be t-three steps a-ahead of everyone else.” He said in a small voice, looking over at him. Jesse pushed a hand through his disheveled blonde hair, “Y-you need to g-give yourself m-more credit brotha.” He offered a faint smile. Jesse always thought of Xander as a brilliant person, despite how dangerous and stupid his ideas could be. Pardon the irony, but he believed that Xander had the potential to be this brilliant man, he just needed a shove in the right direction and to stop doing the stupid things he was so known for doing. If there was one thing Jesse knew flat out about his brother, is that he was always so much different than what both himself and his father were like. Their mother though, their mother was a little bit more on the wild side, oh yes, Jesse had heard about her younger years. She was a hard partier, but she stopped that when she became pregnant.
Thoughtfully, he chewed on his lip before he laughed a bit, “J-just be careful. I-I don’t want t-to see you in the h-hospital wing first g-game.” He said playfully, yet stern. He hated it when Xander landed himself in the hospital. It was like, to Jesse, he felt that he didn’t do a good enough job keeping him safe. He’d never admit that though, he’d always keep that to himself. That was his job though, wasn’t it? Oh yeah, he’d taken a few bludgers to the head and a few hundred feet falls every now and then, but he was always right back up. If he fell, he wasn’t on the ground for long. Jesse looked over at him, “D’you think we can actually get the cup this year?” he asked, raising a brow. They were so close last year, but when you lose your seeker for the entire game, you lose pretty much your chance of winning the finals.
