Fifteen years Nick had been Headmaster. He had seen several teachers come and go, he had seen students come and go. He was used to this. However, this year and the previous year had showed new challenges. He hired new staff members, people the same age as his son, people Nick had taught himself. Nick was still having a hard time seeing them as adults, and not students. Nick started teaching twenty three years ago, most of the current professors had been students of his.
“One thing I’d like you guys to think about for a few days is a Halloween Ball. A few students have been asking about that, so I’m putting it on the floor. Everyone think about it, and if you’d be willing to chaperon, let me know!” Nick addressed the staff as they prepared to leave. As everyone left his office, Nick sat down at his desk. Smoothing his blue pullover sweater, he looked at the pictures on his desk. There were pictures of his son, daughter and granddaughter. There was a picture of his late wife, Leah.
Nick enjoyed being Headmaster, but he missed teaching. He missed being in the classroom everyday, and interacting with the students. He didn’t like the constant meetings, and the likes that came with the job. But, Nick was good at his job. In the fifteen years he had been Headmaster, the school thrived. Hogwarts Board of Governors hadn’t had any major complaints in the last ten years.
Shaking the thoughts from his head, Nick looked up. Alessandra Insana, Charms professor and head of Slytherin, stood before him. “Yes, Professor? May I help you with something?” He asked formally. Alessandra Insana was a new hire, this was only her second year. Alessandra had been close friends with Nick’s eldest child, and Nick knew her well. Nick didn't know if he would consider himself friends with her. After all, he was twenty five years her senior.

Alessandra had not been in the Headmaster's office often. During her Hogwarts years, she was pretty much a good student and nothing warranted an visit to the Headmaster's office. The first time she'd been here, she had been very fascinated with previous Headmasters' paintings, particularly Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape. She hadn't known of the second Wizarding War and when she entered Hogwarts, she researched the crap out of it. Severus Snape fascinated her very much. She supposed it was because he was from Slytherin and was universally hated but ended up with his good intentions revealed.
So she'd chosen a place where she could look at the portrait discreetly. Of course, wherever she chose to sit, she had a pretty good view of the Headmaster. The meeting was pretty standard and Aless soon found her attention floundering. She didn't show it though. She scribbled notes onto her notepad, thought about her lessons for tomorrow and how she really wished some of the boys would stop hitting on her as if they stood a chance. When the Headmaster mentioned a Halloween Ball, Aless perked up. She looked at the man, before they were all dismissed.
She dropped her notepad on purpose, as her colleagues all passed by her. Picking it up, Aless went up to the Headmaster's desk, waiting for him to notice her. “You know I prefer Aless, Headmaster. Professor sounds so... stiff.” The blonde smiled faintly. Alessandra was thinking of the word old, but well, one didn't mention that word in front of a fifty year old man. “Anyway, I'll be more than willing to chaperon students for the ball.” She said, sitting down in front of him. “How's the little Griffin?” Aless asked, referring to his son. “It's been more than a week since he replied to my owl. I think I need to threaten to send Silver over to him.” The blonde said, a spark appearing in her eyes as she thought of her pet snake.

Nick smiled at the mention of his son, his first born. His son currently lived in America, working the American Ministry, in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. He was responsible for repairing accidental magical damage in the world. Most of the recent damage was caused by children. Children, most of them under the age of nine, had a hard time controlling their magic. His job was to go in, fix the problem, and get out. A few days ago, Nick had received a letter. His son received a promotion.
“Well, Professor,” Nick paused to smile, “he did get promoted. I’m sure he’s very busy. He’s second in command in his department, you know.” Nick said proudly. His son was twenty five years old, already second in command. Nick was proud of both his children, Grace especially. His daughter was only nine years old when her mother died. Grace had a hard time than his son did, she was so young. Nick had several grey hairs from Grace, she caused so much stress. Harmony was the main cause of those grey hairs.
“Did I ever show you this picture of him and Harmony?” Nick asked, handing Alessandra the picture
in question. Nick’s pride and joy was his children, and granddaughter. He never passed up an opportunity to talk about them or show pictures. Alessandra resisted the urge to roll her eyes when he continued called her Professor. Fine, let him continue calling her that. The day he called her by her name would be the day Alessandra knew she had gotten through to him. “Ah, a promotion. No wonder he's been ignoring me.” The blonde was wondering when it was her turn to be promoted. She'd just been here a year and thought she had been doing a very good job. Of course, it didn't matter if she thought so. It mattered if the Headmaster thought she did.
The blonde took the picture from him, smiling as she did so. “Cute.” She said, looking at her friend and his niece. “I keep telling him he needs to get married and have cute little babies that I can play with.” Alessandra said, taking a closer look at the child in the picture. She knew about Grace, and always wondered why she felt the need to take her mother's last name instead of Griffin. She thought that was a pretty awesome last name. If her mother had a different last name, she might have taken it.
“How old is Harmony again?” Aless asked. She knew Nick was very proud of his children and grandchildren. It never hurt to ask him questions about them and get in his good graces. “I wouldn't mind meeting her the next time she visits you here.”

“He’s got a whole division reporting to him now, and he only reports to one other higher power,” Nick said proudly. His son started working for the American Ministry six years ago, and look where he was. He was a major part of his office, and he was steadily gaining more power and responsibility. Nick had high dreams for his children, all he wanted was to see them thrive. Both of his children were young and already had bumps in the road, mothers dying and teenager pregnancies.
“As much as I love my grand daughter, I’m too old for another one. My darling Harmony is three years old. In fact, I think Grace and her boyfriend are coming up for the ball. You’ll meet them then,”
Nick placed the picture frame back where it belonged. His desk was neat and tidy. Everything had a place, and everything was in its place. There was no excess clutter on the top. A few pencils, and three frames. One was his son and granddaughter, the second was his late wife and Grace, when she was three years old. The final picture was his late wife, taken thirty long years ago. It was their wedding day, one of the happiest days of his life. Reaching into the files cabinet of the desk, Nick pulled out a bottle of burbon and two tumblers. Filling one, he held it out to Alessandra. “I trust you can handle your liquor better now?” He raised an eyebrow before smiling. Nick thought back to the numerous times he caught Alessandra and his son drinking. It happened far too often for his liking, but he did his best to stop it. From what Nick saw, Alessandra held her alcohol surprisingly well for a sixteen year old. [/blockquote][/blockquote] STARRING : Nicholas & Alessandra WORDS : 296 WEARING : clicky click NOTES : The Crazy Birds <3 LYRICS USED : USE SOMEBODY - KINGS OF LEON LISTENING TO : Young Girl - Gary Puckett And The Union Gap BANNER CREDIT : TANA

“Good for him.” Alessandra said, tucking some stray hair behind her ear. Her friendship with Nick's son was one of her longer lasting ones. Probably because Aless knew he was the Headmaster's son. There was certain benefits to being friends with the little Griffin. Or so Aless had hoped. She had gone on several dates with him, just because he'd asked her. But Alessandra always knew she had a thing for older men, not those her own age. They were fun for playing but otherwise, they didn't do anything for her.
Aless laughed softly when Nick said he was too old for another grandchild. “Some might say you're too young.” The blonde told him. “Ah, three years old. That's a lovely age.” Alessandra said. Merlin knew why people always said it was a lovely age. She never got it. Probably because she didn't have children. She didn't intend to have any children. Her family had a history of dying early or going insane. She wouldn't want that to happen to any of her children. “Looking forward to it.” The blonde smiled, though she thought she might want to leave the gala as soon as his daughter and her boyfriend appeared.
Her eyes lit up when Nick decided that they needed a drink. He didn't exactly ask, but when he pulled out a bottle of burbon, Aless smiled. Her lips curled up even wider when Nick asked if she could hold her liquor. “I don't suppose you'd believe me if I said I was only playing at being drunk and laughing at little Griffin?” The blonde took the drink. She breathed in the aroma, before taking a small sip. “Have you been drunk before in your younger days? Maybe you were a wild thing who went around smashing tables and chairs?” She asked, grinning impishly.
