Charlotte sighed, folding the letter from her father. Gently, she placed on top of her school robes. As it was Saturday, she wasn’t required to wear her school uniform. Today, Charlotte was sporting black skinny jeans and a grey sweater with a tan tank underneath. The weather had started to get more chilly, and the wind chill was getting higher, so she was forced to wear shoes, brown fringe boots.
“Venir ici! S'asseoir,” Charlotte muttered to Mackenna, her tabby kitten, “Bonne chaton.” She wasn’t sure if animals were allowed to play outside, but Mackenna’s hazel eyes were just too cute to say no to. Mackenna understood French, as it was the main language in her home.
Picking up a novel, she skimmed the front cover, and tossed it back down. For once in her life, Charlotte wasn’t in the mood for reading. She was a 6th year, and a prefect. How did that happen? Charlotte loved a good prank, and partying the night away. Charlotte couldn't even count the number of times she’d snuck out of her house during winter or summer holidays to go muggle night clubs.
“Faut-il planifier une blague?” She asked the kitten, thinking who would be the perfect person to plan it with. This was her first year at Hogwarts, and she still hadn’t made very many close friends. Hopefully, that would change soon.

Adin Larissa Ellis ;; Leaves crunched under Adin's booted feet as she made her way across the grounds. The weekend had finally arrived, and like everyone else, she had quickly headed for the door to enjoy what could possibly be one of the last nice days of the year. It wasn't warm, but it wasn't particularly cool either which suited Adin just fine. She was wearing weekend clothes, a pair of ripped skinny jeans and a gray and black striped hoodie with a green tank top. Her wild mess of curls was contained in a cream colored knit hat, and she was thankful to have something to keep her hair from whipping at her face. She stopped for a second, glancing around at the students surrounding her for anyone she might actually want to talk to.
Adin grinned when she saw Charlotte sitting on one of the stone benches scattered across the lawn. They had talked at the library a few days ago, and gotten along fabulously. Charlotte had even been willing to help her with Muggle Studies, the only class that Adin had trouble with due to her complete lack of exposure to the muggle world, courtesy of her father. In a snap decision, she made her way towards the Gryffindor girl.
Charlotte threw down a book, murmuring softly to a small tabby cat who was scampering around the girl's feet. She could barely hear the soft spoken words over the breeze. Adin blinked in surprise when she recognized the language not as English, but as French, a language she spoke fluently upon her mother's insistence that she "remain in touch with her ancestry". Her mother tended to act as though she was pure French, when in fact, she was half Italian as well. You wouldn't hear any Italian in the Ellis household however, not even "pizza".
"Bonjour, Charlotte." Adin said grinning, the language rolling off her tongue perfectly. "Je ne savais pas que vous parliez français!" She picked up the book that Charlotte had dropped. "So, what'd this book ever do to you?" she joked, eyeing Charlotte mischievously. The kitten wound around their feet, and Adin eyed it with slight distaste. She wasn't fond of cats, or any furry animal really. Birds were probably her favorite animal, a fact that most people found odd. "Qui est le chaton?" she asked, switching back to French.

“Bien sûr, je parle Françaises. J'ai vécu en France pendant plusieurs années.” Charlotte said looking up. The sun shined brightly, despite the cold weather. Adin stood in front of her, smiling. Adin, just like Charlotte, spoke perfect French. Charlotte’s father only spoke French to her. For as long as she could remember, the household had spoken one language, French. “Comment savez-vous français?” She asked, looking up.
“C'est mon chat, McKenna. Papa l'ai eue pour mon anniversaire,” Charlotte said softly. Kenna was only a few months old, still a baby. The cat had spent a few months in London, making sure she was old enough to come to school. A few days ago, Charlotte had received a large package during breakfast. She was thrilled to open it, and discover a cat.
Charlotte had always loved animals, any kind. Her grandparents had a lot of land in France. They had horses, chickens, dogs and cats. It seemed like every time Charlotte visited her grandparents, there was a new animal. After Charlotte moved to America, she begged for a dog. Every year, she got a no in response. Kenna was her first pet that was all hers.

Adin Larissa Ellis ;;"Cela aurait du sens puis!" Adin laughed. "Ma mère est partie français, partie italiens qu'elle préfère ne pas tenir compte de la partie italienne. Elle a insisté pour apprendre le français et de devenir un bon jeune femme. Bien que tourné!" Adin stuck her tongue out at the the mention of how her mother wished she'd behave. Adin had turned out rather different then her parents had planned. More rebellious, more of a free-thinker. She liked to party and have a good time. That didn't make her a failure.
"Je dois l'avouer, elle est une mignonne petite chose," Adin said, watching the kitten. She even reached down and let McKenna sniff at her fingers. "Mes parents m'a fait un chouette quand j'étais jeune. Son nom est Quill. Il est plutôt affectueuse, pour un hibou." She took a seat beside her friend on the bench, stretching her long legs out in front of her.
"Comment avez-vous été Charlotte?" she asked, smiling at the pretty girl beside her. "Êtes-vous heureux de la bille?" Adin asked, even though she was fairly confident she knew the answer would be yes. Adin sure was. She didn't have a date, she usually never did, preferring to either steal someone else's or find a guy who'd been smart enough to go alone and pick up all the girls who were dateless. Most were sad little things, whereas Adin was solo by choice and always looking for fun. Looks were very important to Adin, she would deny being materialistic. She had already ordered in several custom designer dresses, as well as instructed her mother to have the house elves send her majority of the contents of her jewelry box. Already she had narrowed her selection down to three dresses and sent the rest home to be laid aside in her room sized closet. Most of them would likely never be worn, but Adin didn't care. It wasn't her money, after all.
