Just a few hours ago Cassie had thought her entire day would be spent in the library. Now she was down at the black lake with Alexander Creevey. The fact that he was showing interest in her was amazing by itself. She was well on her way to believing that the two of them being in the library was an act destiny or fate or whatever people called it now a days. But what ever it was called, Cassie was not going to question it, because so far Xander seemed like a nice enough guy. Hopefully Linus would have told Cassie differently, although she had never shown interest in Xander for him to ever feel like warning her. Still, it was evident that even if Linus were to warn her, she would probably not listen.
Cassie's eyes drifted over towards Xander, only to return to looking straight ahead of her a moment later. What should she say? She needed to say something, she truly felt obliged to. Maybe comment on the weather? No that would be a stupid comment. Say something about one of the plant lives surrounding them? Yeah, she already seemed to have a plant quirk, this would just solidify that factor of her personality. No, she needed something that would be interesting for both parties. If only she knew more about drugs or something badass. Maybe talk about certain plants that had hallucination effects when digested? He might be interested in that, or even discuss what types of plants grew only under water, he seemed interested in swimming. Blimey she hoped he did not plan on going swimming today. Swimming in a lake in September did not sound appeasing at all. Any body swimming in the fall/winter time had to be more than mad she thought.
"What's down here, exactly?" she asked, slowing her pace down a bit. What if he had other intentions of bringing her down here? This thought just occurred to her. Maybe he would drug her up and have his way with her. That made Cassie's stomach do a backflip. He could not be that kind of guy though, right? There was never any reports about that sort of thing happening in Hogwarts. Certainly Xander was not some psychopath in disguise. Or at least Cassie was hoping so, otherwise she made a terrible mistake in joining him on this adventure.

Walking by the shore of the black lake, Xander wondered what was going through Cassandra’s mind. Obviously she hadn’t caught onto Xander’s true intentions, although Xander wasn’t even sure what he really wanted out of this. Sure, he wouldn’t mind hooking up with Cassandra but he didn’t need another meaningless fling. He wondered if it was merely boredom that sparked his interest in Cassandra, or perhaps something else. Maybe it was the essence of innocence that Cassandra carried with her, or her looks. Whatever had caused Xander’s spontaneous act of romance, he had to keep his head in the current situation.
Xander could feel Cassandra’s nervousness radiate along the shores. It brought a small smile to his face; it was cute. Cassandra wasn’t hot, but she definitely had appeal to her. It was more of a catholic school girl attraction but she was attractive none the less. He could tell she was searching for something to say, he could intervene but he was curious as to what the Hufflepuff would bring up. Xander never had an issue with small talk (or big talk for that matter) and he was naturally a sociable person. Occasionally Xander felt that his Charisma added to his over-sized ego, but it didn’t bother him too much.
There seemed to be so many questions on the girl’s mind, questions she couldn’t form into words. Xander wasn’t sure what he planned to do with Cassandra when he got her alone but he knew he had to take it slow. He wanted to show her what a gentleman was like and then show her what Xander was like. Finally she formed the words to ask a question and Xander formulated a quick answer; ”Well us, of course.” He smiled at Cassandra, ”And the view of the gorgeous and horrific black lake.”. The sun shone of the glimmering lake and Xander found a soft patch of grass to sit down on. He removed his coat, revealing the white button-up shirt he was wearing underneath and he spread his coat over the grassy patch, laying on one side and motioning for Cassandra to take the place to his left.

Cassie sat on Xander's left, just as he motioned to. She slipped her back pack off, followed by her Hogwart's robe. It may have been September in Scottland, but it was not that cold. She glanced around, and a spotted a puffapod just in front of them. "You know, what's cool about those," she point to the puffapod, "Is that after the beans fully grow, you have to wait a few years for the next batch. It's like totally the definition of a perennial plant. Also, depending on the species of puffapod, they may be edible too. Which is pretty nifty if you ever find yourself need to survive on the wilderness. It just helps to know the colouring and patterns on the petals." The girl pulled her wand out of her bag, and waved it in a swift motion, which in turn lifted up a few of the flowers and brought them over to where her and Xander were sitting.
"See, these ones are pink, and as pleasing as a colour as that is to most, it's actually a trick," she crossed her legs and cupped one of the flowers with her hands, "See, on the petals themselves, there are these tiny little traps, like a sort of sticky paper thing muggles use for mice, and when a bug lands around that area it gets stuck. And then it sort of takes on a fly trap sort of personality, I guess, and closes tightly. But it doesn't have a liquid that dissolves the bug, it's actually more of a poisonous gas. Weird right? But no one has ever bothered tasting them, because they think that if they eat it the poisonous gas will escape and get caught in them and dissolve them from the inside out." Cassie rolled her eyes at the thought. She had never risked eating a pink puffapod, but she was certain that no one would be dissolved from the inside out.
"Sorry, kind of rambled there," she said, releasing the flower so that it floated with the others. "I don't think it needs to be said that I really like plants," Cassie blushed. Linus probably had complained that his family had some freak obsession with plants. Out of all three, he was the only one that was not a fan of learning about the plant life around him. "So, erm, what classes are you taking? Like, you don't have to tell me but I'm just curious," she shrugged.

Xander watched as Cassandra rambled on about plants. He was only half listening; she was talking about some sort of bean-plant. He pretended to gaze into her eyes, pretending to listen intently to every word she said as if it were as interesting as she thought it was. If words were distance she could talk for miles, although for some reason it didn’t bother him as much as he thought it would. He knew almost nothing about Herbology, whenever he had to take the class he mostly cheated through it. He wondered if Cassandra knew what plants were hallucinogenic and which ones could simply get him high. Probably, although that might not be information she was willing to share.
”You know, the usual,” he responded nonchalantly. “Defense against the dark arts, charms, transfiguration, potions and care of magical creatures.” He was hoping she wouldn’t notice that the classes he was taking was Auror requirements, he’d rather not discuss future plans with Cassandra. Whatever she wanted to do she was probably ready and prepared for and Xander was the complete opposite. It had taken Xander almost all he had to get good marks on the O.W.L.S. and he had no idea how he would pass the N.E.W.T.S.
”You know there is a party tonight if you’re interested,” He said, playfully eyeing Cassandra and changing the subject. “You’re welcome to come, if you want. I’ll be there.”

Cassie's knowledge of plants freaked most people out, and if not freaked them out than certainly bored them enough to just walk away. Still Xander was still sitting there, looking interested in what she was saying. That was so sweet, she thought, for once a guy who is also interested in Herbology. Sure, plants by the looks may be boring but when someone would sit and listen and hear how they survived and what nifty tricks they did, they could fall in love. A plant's biological system was fascinating by itself, add in the "personalities" and it could be like you were talking about a human. Especially when it came to a deadly plant that lived near by.
"Oh wow," Cassie stated, "Are you hoping to be an Auror after Hogwarts? I mean, not that you need to hope...I'm sure you could easily become one..." she tucked some hair behind her ear, before quickly untucking it to hide her red face. She was sure that Xander was a very smart kid. Plus, how bad of a guy could he be if he wanted to go out and stop bad guys? That would not make sense at all, and be entirely hypocritical of him.
"A party!" Cassandra's face lit up. She had never been invited to a party before. Hell, the people she hung around probably did not even realize that other students went to parties during the school year. She knew Linus had been to some though, he just never had the courtesy to invite her. But that was usually fine, who would want to show up to a party with their little sister? "I'd love to come, where is it? What time should I be there? Is there a dress code I should follow? I mean, yeah totally, that sounds cool" She was failing miserable at containing her excitement. She could only picture herself running all the way to her dormitory to tell her friends how she was finally invited to a party and it only took six years.

Xander’s act seemed to working; Cassandra seemed to be appreciative of his “attentiveness”. There was a small hollow of guilt that had formed inside his gut and he questioned himself. Am I even doing anything wrong? No, he concluded, he wasn’t. There wasn’t anything wrong about playing along; it wasn’t like he was lying. He never had this much of a conscience when it came to girls but Cassandra was different. Maybe it would ease over at the party; he pondered how Cassandra would react to the group of people. He wasn’t exactly sure who was going, but he knew it’d be fun. He was thinking of taking something before the event; he wondered if Cassandra would talk part.
He was dismayed when Cassandra caught on to his class schedule but his quick subject change made it bearable. I’m sure you could easily become one, she had told him. Cassandra was giving him too much credit; she didn’t know how bad his grades were, being an Auror wasn’t an easy career to get into and only the best get to the training and complete it. Perhaps he’d give up and spend his time training for Quidditch. He needed to decide as soon as he could so he could begin working on his future career.
”It’s just a party,” He said coolly, placing a hand over hers. ”Don’t worry about a dress code or anything, it’s no big deal. Just showing up is enough.” Her excitement amused Xander, he enjoyed parties but he never got excited for them. Perhaps it was because Xander was so use to it, the thought didn’t occur to him that Cassandra had probably never been to a party before. ”As long as you come with me you have nothing to worry about”, he was hoping Cassandra would start catching on to his flirting but it wasn’t promising.
