Charlotte sighed, as she watched the rain beat down on the Gryffindor common room’s windows. She’d been at school for three weeks now, and still haven't made very many friends. She was on the quidditch team, playing seeker and a prefect. Maybe that’s why I haven’t made many friends? People think I’m a goody two shoes? That’s crazy, I love pranks and hexing people. Honestly, I don’t even know why I was a prefect, Charlotte thought to herself, curling up on chair next to the roaring fireplace.
Charlotte jumped when a clap of thunder broke the silence. Sitting up, she looked around the common room, and saw only a handful of people. Currently, it was a Saturday afternoon, around 5:00. Students were in the library, eating dinner and at Hogsmeade. As it was the weekend, Charlotte wasn’t in the required school robes. At the moment, she had on a black skirt with brightly colored sequins through out the front, with a black tank top, and blue heels. Charlotte paired it with rose gold earrings, and a few rings. Being only five foot, 3 inches, Charlotte wore heels on a almost daily basics. She was used to people looking at her weird, but she didn’t care.
Charlotte's thoughts drifted to the party that when on last night. She had been a little tipsy, and ended up fooling around with James Potter, of all people. Charlotte was on the quidditch team with James, but he was a year old, and that was the basic extent of their interaction. Charlotte was conflicted, on one hand, she didn't care. She was used to fooling around with guys, Charlotte knew she was a flirt and a tease. On the other hand, she was embarrassed. New school, new Charlotte. The New Charlotte certainly didn't include fooling around with boys, no, scratch that, James Potter was a man.
Thunder broke through the sky once again, making Charlotte jump. As much as she loved rain, thunder storms scared the living daylights out of her.

James startled awake as heard a lion roar, the voice revebrating through the otherwise empty room. He groaned and groped sleepily at the low table next to him, hitting a magically enchanted lion on its head and shutting it up. It was something he had made with the help of four of his friends, combining the Muggle concept of an alarm lock with a bit of harmless magic. Today however, he wanted to do nothing more than to throw through the tower window. Never again, he promised himself for the thousandth time as his head throbbed slightly from the now fading hangover. The party the previous night had not been extremely populated. But that just meant the drinks had been plenty, which always seemed a good thing, at the time. He sighed and brushed his hair casually into position, now feeling steadily more clear headed. What had happened at the party the previous day? He could vaguely remember talking to some people. Charlotte...she had been an unusual addition to the party. Though they were on the same Quidditch team, he had never thought her the kind of person who would come to an impromptu party. They had certainly fallen to talking after a few drinks, and the rest was still blurry. He sighed, and got dressed quickly in jeans and a jacket, as thunder rumbled in the distance. Thank goodness it was Saturday, he had been able to sleep off everything. Checking to see if his wand was still in his pocket, he walked slowly down the stairs, trying to piece things together. He had cracked open some Firewhisky, one or two others had shared with him. He vaguely remembered talking to Charlotte alone, her long eyelashes had particularly intrigued him, along with her half-scared, half-mischievous look. By this time, he had reached the Common Room. Looking around, he felt a jolt of electricity go up his spine as he spotted Charlotte, curled up in a chair. Everything came rushing back in a shock. He had made out with her for quite some time, and things had gotten just a little farther before some disturbance stopped them. Well, isn't this awkward he thought to himself, outwardly smiling at her before grabbing a seat near the roaring fire. Fooling around was not something new to him, but he had always been careful not to date anyone from the Quidditch team. A conflict between teammates was something no one liked to see. " Hey, what're you doing inside on a Saturday afternoon," he asked, now a little nervous. Even with the thunderstorm raging outside, there were still a few places to be. James didn't know what to do, and talking to Charlotte was as good a start as any.

Charlotte looked up as she heard someone stumble down the stairs. James Potter walked out of the boys room, looking slightly worse for wear. Charlotte laughed to herself, thinking of the hangover James was surely battling. Charlotte didn’t drink to get drunk, she hadn’t in years. She kept her eyes on James, as he sat down on a chair next to her own. Charlotte could feel the awkwardness in the air. Charlotte smiled as James asked her a question, sounding much to nervous for a Potter.
“Well, I finished my homework this morning, and I have nothing to do. I was thinking about going outside, but it started to thunder. To be honest, thunder scares the living daylights out of me.” Charlotte was shocked to hear herself confiding in James. She hardly knew him. Yes, they were in the same house and on the Quidditch team together, but they were different years, and their social circles didn’t overlap.
“Are you really just waking up? What time did you get back last night?” Charlotte glanced at the clock, but she knew it was almost dinner time. Charlotte stayed at the party for a few hours, but after her rendezvous with James, she left the party. She fled to her room, and quickly drank the potion version of the Plan B pill. The last thing Charlotte needed was a repeat of her pregnancy scare when she was 15. In fact, it had been that very pregnancy scare that made Charlotte turn over a new leaf. Obviously, that new leaf did not seem to take. Charlotte hoped that she and James would be able to forget the previous night, for the sake of the team.

The smoke from the roaring fire was warm, and James was relaxing by the second. Apart from the occasional peal of thunder, only the steady patter of rain could be heard. He realized that all of his initial reactions were too complicated. He did not openly dislike Charlotte, she was an excellent Quidditch player and had proved last night that she could mix her duties as a Prefect with her social life. James approved of any person who was not overly fastidious or lived on a by-the-rules basis.
He smiled devilishly at Charlotte upon hearing that she had a weakness for thunder. It somehow made her seem likeable, as if she now had a human side too. "I was too, when I was younger. But trust me, when you've been flying since you were six, you soon get used to everything in the sky." Trying to make a relative stranger feel better was relatively new to James. Well, it's not like there was ever much time for heart-to-heart talks in the midst of a raging party. he thought, letting slip a small rueful grin. Thankfully, she had been looking at his disheveled appearance for a while now, and the smile would not seem out of place. " Noticed my majestic appearance, I see. Well, I did wake up once in the morning, but when one has a splitting headache, going back to sleep is always the best decision. Besides, I have no practice or homework, so it's a rare free day for me." Charlotte looked completely normal, which was a little astounding. She had been drunk enough to fool around with him, so it was amazing that she still looked completely fresh. Without the make up, she seemed different somehow, though no less appealing. He couldn't resist commenting on it. " You look unusually fresh, considering...everything that happened yesterday," he laughed, then settled himself into a more comfortable position on the chair. The room felt incredibly cozy compared to what must be cold and damp outside its walls.

“Thunder and trees, they are my kryptonite. When I was four or five years old, I was climbing a tree with my cousin, and a bolt of lightening hit the tree, and started a small fire. We were totally fine, but I’ve been terrified of trees and thunderstorms ever since.” Charlotte mentally slapped herself on the forehead, thinking ‘what pureblood child raised in the wizarding world knew who Superman was, or what kryptonite was.’

“Don’t worry, when you get a little older, you’ll learn to hold your liquor, and how to drink without getting drunk. I only had a few drinks, I was tipsy, at best. I prefer to stay as sober as I can,” Charlotte said in a jokingly condescending tone. “Unusually fresh? Are you saying that I normally look like bad? I do believe this is what is called the post-orgasm glow,” Charlotte said, with a nervous chuckle. She didn’t know if James would want to try to act like it never happened. ‘Talk about the elephant in the room’ she thought to herself. Slipping her heels off, she spun around in the chair to better face James. Charlotte was now sitting sideways, with her legs hanging over the side of the chair. Remembering she was in a skirt, Charlotte prayed that her underwear wasn't visible. [/div]

“Unusually fresh? Are you saying that I normally look like bad? I do believe this is what is called the post-orgasm glow,”
James laughed out loud, his voice carrying around the stifling room. It was the last thing he had expected the sixth year Prefect to say. This girl is probably the most liberal sixth year I've ever met. He had walked right into that one, but he thought quickly on his feet, while pretending to run his hand over his hair once again. "Of course not, but considering we normally see each other while flying at vision-blurring speeds, you can hardly blame me for not noticing before! In any case, I had far more alcohol than you did, so it's only natural that I have a hangover. "
The tension in the room was more palpable as Charlotte herself began to give of a nervous aura. James was tired of it, for he was not used to feeling uncomfortable around anyone except the very creepy cat that ran around Hogwarts. As Charlotte changed her position to a more comfortable one, he could now see her clearer as well. He took out his favorite token from his pocket - a carved medallion coin, with the animals of the four houses engraved on it. He took out his wand and absentmindedly began transforming it from one form to another as he thought for a minute. The medallion shifted from it's circular shape to a badger, a lion, a serpent and finally a raven. It had been one of the first transforming spells he'd learned, though doing it silently was a little bit harder.
The choice was hard to make. On one side, he could pretend this never happened. Hiding pranks was one thing, but this was something James really wasn't interested in doing. Besides, Charlotte didn't seem like the kind of girl who would become overly dramatic or spiteful. Might as well start off with a compliment to oil the wheels he decided and closed his hands over the now raven shaped ornament before looking her straight in the eyes and saying," You were quite the kisser yesterday, Miss Prefect. " A chuckle escaped his lips, he could not help it. The room seemed to grow very still, even the smoke seemed to stop spiraling. The ball was now in the other court.

"You were quite the kisser yesterday, Miss Prefect." Did James Potter really just say that? Charlotte let out a slow, nervous laugh, while her face flushed a pale pink. She was used to being the one who said outragouse things, so hearing them sometimes made her feel uneasy. For some reason, she wasn't uncomfortable,
"Well, James, you weren't so bad yourself." Charlotte said, looking James in the eyes, his beautiful brown eyes. Charlotte took a second, and looked James over. He was tall, and muscular, and he had the stereotypical Potter hair, crazy and black. James Potter was very attractive, and Charlotte was sure that he knew it.
As Charlotte looked over James, her thoughts faded back to the party the night before. They ended up talking after a few hours. Charlotte was tipsy but slowly sobering up, and James was totally trashed. I have have made out with several guys, but none them have been as soon as James Potter, Charlotte thought to herself. Charlotte and James had played Chaser for a while, before moving to another classroom, where they went all the way to Keeper. Charlotte wasn't sure if she thought of herself as a slut, she would go to Chaser with anyone. However, she didn't normally go to Keeper with someone she just met.
Feeling awkward, Charlotte began to twist the rings on her fingers. She was nervous, and she felt James was so, based on the fact he kept transforming something he was holding. With a surge of confidence, Charlotte grinned saucily, and said "I must say, you are not that bad of a keeper... But I'm an amazing seeker, if you know what I mean."

Things had gone past the point of normality quite a while ago. Usually, what happened at a party didn't affect James the next day. He had never been antagonistic with a girl, but he had never been one for serious relationships either. Making the decision to get into a relationship in the fifth year, and the subsequent events that followed had only reinforced the thought that relationships were meant to be casual. No, there would be no more serious relationships.
But here, he had been forced to enter into the conversation, considering Charlotte was someone he could absolutely not risk jeopardizing his relationship with. But now the conversation, far from being awkward, was actually getting funnier by the minute. Charlotte, apart from being extremely pretty, also seemed like the kind of person who would be willing to let something stay the way it was. So engrossed was James in this thought process that he almost missed her colorful description of the three bases. Now he was just incredulous, was this really the quiet girl who showed up at team practices?
"I can imagine, but eh...I really don't have proof now, do I?," he said dryly in response to Charlotte's claim. This was turning into a competition to see who could shock the other more. Well, I'm not one to lose at something like this. It'd put my name to shame he decided, then stowed away his medallion. He wasn't so nervous anymore. Now there was just excitement, a desire to win the competition of shocks. The thunderstorm was still raging outside, and James hoped in the corner of his mind that Glider was alright.
Deciding to settle the matter once and for all, he got up and walked over to Charlotte. Bending a little, he gently ran a hand over her cheek, and rested it on her exquisite hair. Getting close to her, he whispered gently in her ear "The shock competition ends with this, I think." Tilting her chin up, he kissed her once, lightly, just long enough to feel her lips, then stepped back and and gave her an innocent look. Not bad, if I say so myself he commented on the inside, trying hard to maintain that look of innocence.

“Well, if you ever want proof of my seeker skills, we can play a game of ‘quidditch’,” Charlotte said, smirking. She was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable she felt with James. After everything that happened with Joey, Charlotte had felt nothing but uneasiness around men. Charlotte could not help but think about the Quidditch team. How would this affect the team? The people on the Quidditch team are my friends, but they’ve know James longer. If this ends up affecting the team, surely people will side with James,
|
Charlotte thought to herself, mind wondering. Charlotte’s thoughts snapped back to the moment when she felt James kiss her. By the time she processed what had happened, James had taken a step back, and was looking at her. What the fuck was that?! Charlotte might fool around with everyone, but she wasn't used to kisses out of the blue. Charlotte open and closed her mouth several times as she tried to decide what to say next. “James,” Charlotte hesitated. She looked around the common room. People were finishing up with dinner, and heading back to the common room. She really did not want to have this conversation with so many people present. Charlotte turned back to James, and asked “do you want to move somewhere less populated?”Note: Sorry this isn't the best. Super bad writer's block today! :3 [/div]

Caught up with trying to catch Charlotte off guard, James almost missed the part where Charlotte offered to play a game of 'Quidditch' with him. He moved back to his seat, for he could hear the faint sound of hundreds of footsteps climbing the staircases. A few of them, at the very least, would find their way to the Gryffindor common room. As far as innuendos go, I think all the possibilities have been fairly exhausted here he mulled somewhat cynically, then broke out of it just in time to see Charlotte lose her shocked face and ask him to go somewhere else. I may have made her a bit too uncomfortable there, I suppose he thought, somewhat hesitantly, and gazed at her, trying to gauge her intent. One or two of the people he knew had been attacked by girls for such antics, and full body paralysis in a deserted classroom had not been the worst thing to happen. Then he almost laughed at how much reading into this. She may just be trying to ensure that the relationship doesn't get awkward. If she bring up the topic, I'll have to tell her that I certainly do feel the same way, he decided. James rose, smoothing out a few wrinkles and then smiled, walked over to Charlotte and offered her a hand to help her up. "Of course I don't mind. Would you like to go out of the Castle? It'll be the quietest, and I know a few ways out of the castle that no one else does." His eyes twinkled as he spoke to Charlotte. No one apart from Professor Theodore and his father knew that James was now the possessor of the Marauder's Map. James was tempted to tell Charlotte, but decided against it at the last moment. He would tell her later maybe, once they got to know each other better. Notes: Yup, I really do have the map. Checked it with Jiggy and the person playing Teddy Lupin.

Charlotte nodded as she took James's hand. As she put her heels back on, she rose from five feet and three inches to the height of five feet and seven inches. Even with the four inch heels, James was still much taller. "How tall are you?"
|
Charlotte looked down as they walked out of the common room, hand in hand. She flushed as students looked closed at their grasped hands, and immediately turned to each other to gossip. Once they reached the hallway, they had some sense of privacy. Charlotte stopped walked, and turned to look James in the eyes. "I just wanted to talk to you about this. I don't want Quidditch to be awkward. In my eyes, there's no reason it should be weird. Yeah, we snogged. Big deal. If you wanted, we could do it again. I just don't think it's that big of a deal." Charlotte whispered as more students walked down the hall. Charlotte gestured with her hand that they should keep walking. As they walked to the stair case, she waited for James to say something. [/div]
