Bored. Lucy was bored. She had just ended a lesson on Charms. It had been mildly interesting. Her next lesson was Potions, which she was quite sure would be much more interesting compared to Charms. But until then, she had a free period. Her only free period in the day. She wasn't going to start reading up on Potions. Or would she? Perhaps if she had absolutely nothing else to do. Going back to her dorm, Lucy dumped her Charms and Transfiguration books onto her bed. Picking up her Potions book, the redhead threw in some chocolate bars into her bag as well. Taking a look into the mirror, Lucy decided to tie her hair into a braid.
Within minutes, her hair was in a simple french braid. Satisfied with the way she looked, Lucy headed out of her dorm. Without bothering to see who was in the common room, Lucy left, making her way to the kitchens. They had served a lovely cheesecake as dessert during lunch. She wanted some more of that. Tickling the pear that turned into a handle, Luce was immediately swamped with house elves wanting to serve her. Telling them that she wanted a slice of cheesecake and a cup of tea, the ginger made her way towards a table near the door.
The Potions classroom was in the dungeons and Lucy didn't want to stray too far away. No point heading up to the towers when she was going to have to come back down within an hour just to attend a lesson. She flipped the textbook open, trying to find the potion that they would be making today. But Lucy got distracted by a chapter on Polyjuice potion. She always wondered how it would be like to change her appearance and look like someone else. Oh, the havoc she could wreck if she changed her appearance to look like one of the girls she hated.

Sterling’s class schedule today was rather light. In the morning, he had Care of Magical Creatures down at the grounds. They were studying thestrals, very interesting creatures, and a very interesting lesson as many students couldn’t even see them. After that, he had a couple free periods, and then he was scheduled to have Transfiguration. In Transfiguration, they would be taking a quiz on how to turn small birds into mice, as that was the first thing they’d learned to do in their first couple classes. Unfortunately for Sterling, he didn’t know any of this, as he hadn’t attended any classes since the first few, and didn’t plan on returning until he needed to. He would surprise himself if he could even state his schedule without digging through his trunk to find it where he’d stashed it after a week.
Instead, he slept in, preferring the extra couple hours of sleep to a lesson on a creature he couldn’t even visualize. He woke up in mid-morning and took a very nice, long shower. It was one of the fabulous perks of choosing not to go to classes when everyone else did- the showers were empty and they were scalding hot. After that, he busied himself by rubbing on a bit of deodorant, throwing on whatever clothes he could find mounded around his bed, and heading out of the common room and down to the kitchens. It was that awkward couple hours between breakfast and lunch, and he was starving. He was sure the house elves would be able to fix him up with something delicious.
He burst into the kitchens in his typical fashion, singing a very unpleasant version of one of his mother’s favorite Celestina Warbeck songs. Belting out the words with no reserve, he dove around the corner into the main area of the kitchen, spinning one of the house elves around as he did. As he continued to sing and hum, rocking back and forth on his feet, he opened one of the refrigerators like he owned the place, digging through it and pulling out a sandwich (that was obviously meant for lunch that day). As he turned, taking a large bite out of it, he spotted a head of flaming hair, and grinning, a piece of lettuce stuck in his teeth. “Luthy! Baby!” his words a little out of place due to the large bite of sandwich still in his mouth.

After the unfornate incidident in the entrance hall and a long, hot shower, Catherine wanted to meet up with a familiar face. After stepping out of the shower and putting on a clean uniform, she headed to the common rooms. She saw a few faces she knew, but no one she wanted to talk with. She was hoping to find Lucy in the common room but she must have been elsewhere. Lucy had been in the common room earlier, although Catherine must have missed her while she was showering. She looked at her watch, only an hour or two until she had to be in potions. Pulling her bag off off the couch, Catherine took once glance in the mirrior to touch up her hair then left the common room.
Catherine walked down the empty hallway, turning into the kitchen and finding Lucy and Sterling in the midst of a crowd of house elves. Sterling seemed to be enjoying himself, and Lucy was devouring a delicious looking cheesecake. Sterling seemed to be at home, belting the lyrics to a song Catherine didn’t know and helping himself to the contents in the fridge. She leaned against the wall, crossing her arms and giving her friends a sly smile.
”Sterling, Lucy,” She nodded to the two fellow Slythriens. She had known the two for a while, Lucy was her dorm mate and Sterling was only a year older than her. She had a few ‘friends’ in the other houses, but didn’t enjoy their company as much as she enjoyed spending time with her own housemates.

It wasn't too long before the house elves brought her what she asked for. Lucy studied the house elf as it walked away. She often wondered how it would be like to have a house elf, ever since she'd learned about them from her Aunt Hermione. One thing was for sure, Lucy would be so much lazier. Imagine having someone to do her each and every bidding. Oh, Lucy would enjoy that very much. Digging into her cheesecake, Lucy returned to her book. She didn't think she would get all the ingredients needed for this particular potion from the student stores. Frowning slightly, Lucy closed the book.
At that moment, someone came into the kitchens. She said came, but Lucy thought he more like sashayed in. Sterling was singing. He was singing horribly to what Lucy recognised as a Celestina Warbeck song. She arched her eyebrows and watched as he spun a house elf around. Well, he seemed to be in a good mood. Lucy was kept pretty entertained as he sang, oblivious to the fact that she was in the kitchens as well. A smile crept onto her features and when Sterling finally saw her, Lucy burst out into laughter. “Hello to you too, my love.” She said, after her chuckles died out. “You've got something between your teeth. I'm not kissing you today.” She said, shaking her head.
Somewhere between her laughter and Sterling's lovely singing, Catherine had slipped in. “Ah, Catherine!” Lucy waved to her. “Here I was thinking I would be spending this hour alone. Now I've got two of you for company. What shall we get up to? Sterling will raid the refrigerator, I will consume all the cheesecake. Catherine? Anything you fancy here in the kitchens that you will devour?” Lucy asked, before taking a sip of her drink. “How has everyone's day been? Mine has been absolutely horrible, thanks for asking.” She replied her own question, before they could even answer it.

He finished chewing his bite of sandwich happily and swallowed, delighted by how delicious the sandwich itself was. An assortment of Italian meats, he was guessing. At Lucy’s cue, he reached up to his mouth and started to pick at the front of his teeth, switching between his tongue and his fingers in an attempt to free the green, which, eventually, he did.
“No kiss? No kiss!” He dropped the sandwich on the table next to the refrigerator and dived across the kitchen towards Lucy, swooping down behind her and gathering her from behind in his arms, lifting her a little bit off of her seat in a hug. He jammed his face against her cheek, pursing his lips so they collided with her cheekbone. Making an odd humming noise as his head wiggled around next to hers, he finally released her, laughing at his triumph. “Right. Got my kiss, eh?” He leaned forwards a little, winked at her, then meandered back over to his sandwich.
He’d taken another bite before he heard Lucy say Catherine’s name, shooting off on small talk immediately. Sterling heard his own name as well, and he spun around, surveying Catherine quickly before he raised a happy hand in greeting. He snorted at Lucy’s self-response, hopping up on the counter so that his legs were dangling off it, a sandwich in one hand, its plate in the other. “Showered and came here.” he said bluntly. He didn’t expect either of them to have expected him to go to a class.

”No, Thank you. I’ll wait until dinner tonight,” Catherine said, smiling with Lucy. She seemed relieved that Catherine and Sterling had made their way to the Kitchens. Catherine was at ease with her friends, yet she was tempted by the sweet food. She preferred to eat only at meal times and to stay on a strict eating schedule, not for the sake of appearance but for the sake of regularity. It seemed as if Catherine wasn’t the only Slytherin that wasn’t having too good of a day. She wondered what had made her day so terrible and she wasn’t surprised to find Sterling’s absence in class.
”Do the teachers even know who are? She asked jokingly. Catherine was very serious about her studies, and mainly got good marks on exams. Her one weakness was Herbology and she wasn’t taking the class anymore. She liked the Charms professor but her favorite class was potions. She had a knack for things that required strict directions and care. Sterling didn’t care too much about his schooling and Lucy seemed to be in the same boat as Catherine. Sterling’s apathy was something Catherine never understood, she was very concerned about how she did in school. Without good marks in school she wouldn’t be able to land a good career.
”Someone set off a dungbomb in the entrance hall,” She told them, leaving out the bit about Linus and the dirt. She didn’t think they had anything against Linus, but she’d rather keep her doings with the annoying hufflepuff to herself.

The redhead watched Sterling as he got whatever it was between his teeth, simply because she had nothing else to do. Popping a mouthful of cheesecake into her mouth, Lucy smiled as she heard Sterling’s voice again. She laughed at Sterling’s reaction regarding her comment about kissing. She could only watch him as he came near her, no doubt intending to plant one on her. Lucy let out a soft shriek as Sterling came up from behind her and kissed her cheek. “Merlin, you’re lucky I don’t have a boyfriend right now.” Lucy said, grinning at the older year as he winked at her.
“That seems a good choice. Might need to skip dinner tonight due to my current indulgence.” Lucy said, looking down at her half finished cake. Ah well. She only lived once and she liked her food too much to skip a meal. She might gobble it down while reading a book but Lucy preferred to sit at a table and properly eat it. “Did you just wake up, you lazy pig?” Lucy asked Sterling. She’d called him that too many times during their friendship for him to be properly offended. At least, she thought so. Luce let out a chuckle at Catherine’s comment. “That is a good question. We should ask them that and we just might be met with a blank expression on their faces.”
She had some more of her cake, wrinkling her nose when Catherine mentioned a dungbomb. “Those are some foul smelling things.” Lucy stated. It was quite evident from the name of the dungbomb. Dung was not pleasant smelling. “Never understood the pleasures of pranking someone.” The redhead said. She had that in common with her father. “Say, does anyone want to accompany me out on the first Hogsmeade weekend? I think I need some new clothes. So Sterling, you’re out. Unless you want to see me in numerous dresses for the entire trip.” Of course, she’d get other things like sweets and chocolates. But getting some new dresses was her main objective.
