MALAKAI ISAIAH MONTAGUE
INTRODUCTION
Full name: Malakai Isaiah Montague
Nickname(s): Mal, M
Age: Eighteen
Gender: Male
House: Slytherin Alum
Occuption: Drug Dealer
APPEARANCE
Play By: James Franco
Style: For the most part, Mal doesn’t give much thought to his appearance. This doesn’t mean, however, that he looks very shabby. It’s in his nature to look fairly presentable, as that was how he was raised. Though his clothing isn’t always of the highest quality, he spruces up just fine. When the occasion presents itself, he will dress nicely, and look very sharp doing so.
Distinguishing Marks: Tattoo
PERSONALITY
Likes: The calm before a storm, funky music, fire, sleeping on the couch, going barefoot, psychoactive drugs, marijuana.
Dislikes: Perfume-like smells, paper cuts, flat beer, fruit, traitors, shoes, large groups of people.
Boggart: Going to Azkaban.
Patronus: Wolf
Strengths: Stealth, business sense, intimidating.
Weaknesses: Stubborn, insensitive, lactose intolerant.
Personality: Malakai is a very mysterious person, and he’s definitely planned it that way. He’s very private about his family, his love life, and his business, not liking anyone to be involved in them besides the people of his choosing. For this reason, he has a very small selection of friends, and he’s perfectly unbothered by this. It’s impossible to call him friend after first meeting, for in his mind, you must prove yourself worthy of his trust. There are only two people who have gained it fully so far, his blood brother and the love of his life. If he seems reserved around you, don’t take it personally. It’s merely his nature.
Usually, Mal is very calm and collected. He’s extremely business oriented, and has a good mind for making money and keeping things in order. He’s extremely persuasive and charming when he needs to be, making clients and business acquaintances and keeping them with great skill. This is a façade he puts on for the business, though. One would never see his spilling syrupy sweet words to random passersby on the street, unless he wants something from them. He’s very well known- his name at least. He likes to stay in the shadows, despite being the runner of one of the largest drug cartels in the British wizarding world. The success he’s reached in so little time is a mystery to many.
He’s not unbreakable, however. Mal’s worst fear is getting caught, and he is extremely paranoid about his personal space and the people he cares about. In his business, with its many off-shoots, he never reveals himself to his partners unless absolutely necessary, and often operates under a false name, pretending to be someone working for “M”, as he goes by. He is also prone to fits of rage when secretly, internally frightened, or long periods of absolute silence where he doesn’t react to anyone. He is enigmatic in this sense. Few people understand him. Perhaps he doesn’t even understand himself.

General History: The Montague’s were not unlike any other death eater family, which is why they were horrified to find out their only son was marrying hufflepuff Penelope Clearwater. Octavius was instantly disowned, cut off from his wealthy inheritance, and basically exiled from death eater society, or what was left of them. The pair was happy together though, which was what counted in the end. Though Octavius was a relatively stoic and stone-faced man, Penelope understood him, and she was a shining light where he had none. They were cast out from each side of their own societies, but found solace in one another.
Life wasn’t exactly easy, and tensions were high. For the first years of their marriage, the couple was very happy. They had two sons, Malakai and Zachariah, born two years apart. Because of this, the boys grew up as partners, and partners in crime they were. Malakai often took the lead on such pranks as putting garden snakes in his mother’s pots and pans or putting itching powder in his father’s cologne bottles. They weren’t jolly friends all the time though- young boys fought, and the Montagues knew how to fight. Not only did they scream, but screaming quickly turned into flying fists. Their mother detested their arguments because of the violent outcomes, but Octavius refused to intervene. He believed the pair could settle their spats alone. The boys soon grew out of their fights, and they came out of them with a higher respect for one another, essentially the only bit of parenting Octavius ever did.
He wasn’t a very good father, and he quickly became a terrible husband too. He wasn’t a drug user or an alcohol abuser, and it is a big mystery as to how things went downhill and so quickly. He was always quiet, but more and more he became crass, cruel, rude, and violent. Malakai grew up with a growing hatred for his father, and he made that explicitly clear at all times. He did not respect the man, who treated his mother, who he adored in his own way, terribly. Mal lashed out and became above and beyond the problem teenager. He would smash things, sneak out, drink, and use all sorts of drugs, making his own for recreation. He would deface public property, cause a public disturbance, or simply call out his father on everything he did wrong. This made home life very difficult.
Hogwarts was an escape, but Malakai didn’t enjoy it very much. He hated school, and constantly considered dropping out. As he grew older though, he found a band of people he didn’t hate being around, though he wouldn’t exactly call them friends. With horrible grades and no motivation, Hogwarts looked like a set of bleak years. Third year improved things, however. Zachariah joined him at school, so Malakai finally had someone around he could trust. He showed his brother the ropes, refused to allow anyone to diminish him to anything less than Malakai’s equal. He’d made quite a reputation for himself, and he wouldn’t let his brother fall under the radar.
In his fifth year, things were even better. Though he wasn’t a huge partier, he’d started up a little business. In his third and fourth years he realized that Hogwarts did have something to offer. He started to pay attention in his Herbology and Potions class, studying the effects of potions and herbs on wizards. A fervent drug user, he started to create his own concoctions and shared them with friends. By his fifth year, he had his own selection of different highs and trips, and his friends urged him to give them more. Malakai wasn’t cheap; he knew he had something worth selling. So, his business took off. He sold to the older kids in the school, and utilized Zac to sell to younger years. He started to become more secretive, though, and flew under the radar. He didn’t want to get caught and sent back home, so he didn’t let anyone in on where he created things, how he created them, or where transactions took place. He even spilt lies about buying from someone else, or had younger years deliver bags for him. Owls were addressed only to “M”. Few people in the school had no idea who they were actually buying from.
Fifth year also meant something else for Mal. It was then that he met Dylan Dollinger, the instant object of his affection. Mal was just like any other boy and liked girls, but he didn’t see any point wasting time with them when he had a business to run and things to create. Dylan was different, though. There was something about her that struck a chord in him, and he was paralyzed by the sight of her. He chased her for an entire year, owling her over the summer and finally professing his love. This was groundbreaking- Malakai barely showed emotion. Only to his brother, and only to her.
During the summer he got closer to Dylan, Mal also made another brash decision. During a heated argument with his father, Mal decided that he’d certainly had enough. He had a bunch of money saved up from his business at school (he had always been a very frugal person), and he took off, leaving his home and most of his belongings behind. He started to rent a room above the Hogs Head, and even worked out a deal with the bartender (that may or may not have involved a new strain of drug). During the summers and holidays, Mal lived in his apartment, and it was there that his business really started to take off. His client base expanded to shopkeepers and residents of Hogsmeade. Who knew there were so many normal people who just wanted to get a high?
Sixth and seventh year were eventful, only because his business started to grow larger and larger, beyond his wildest dreams but never out of his control. He had satellite dealers who’d never seen him face to face, some that were even twice his age. Zac was still his closest confident and partner, and despite being the head of the operation, he looked to him for advice and assistance when needed. Dylan even got in on it too, especially when the pair started to date officially. But he was always very protective of her, and never gave her too much responsibility, for his fear of her getting caught was much more intense than for himself.
Mal barely graduated, falling behind in all subjects but Potions and Herbology, in which he received O’s on his OWLs and NEWTs. He continues to live and work through the small apartment at the top of the Hogs Head, the other rooms of which he bought out for his own labs and living space (the place stopped advertising as an inn, citing lack of funds to upkeep). Eighteen and the leader of the largest drug cartel in the area, could Mal be in over his head? He doesn’t think so. He keeps his head down, away from his parents, and close to the people that love him. The life requires that of him.
