After the Healer appointment, Steph and Spencer left to meet Tristan for lunch. Tristan was one of Steph's best friends. Steph had never gone this long without seeing him. She hadn't seen Tristan since before the start of term. The last time they were together was the night Steph met Spencer.
Spencer and Steph walked closer The Leaky Cauldron for lunch with Tristan. She hoped Tristan wouldn't give Spencer to much trouble. Even though the two weren't actually related, they acted like brother and sister. They teased, fought and made up like real siblings. They spent holidays together, and even birthdays. Steph was even hoping Tristan would be godfather to the baby.
As excited as she was to see Tristan, Steph kept thinking back to earlier that day. Tabitha, the Healer, expressed concern about the inflating balloon feeling Steph had. Steph vowed to herself that she would keep take it easy, and rest more. She would keep her feet up, and stress down. Steph would do anything to keep this baby safe.
"Are you sure you're up for this? Tristan can be a little much sometimes, but he would understand if we wanted to reschedule." Steph looked at Spencer. They were outside The Leaky Cauldron now, and she could see Tristan inside. Steph blinked, her eyes filling with tears of the idea of losing their baby. Wrapping her arms around Spencer, she whispered, "I don't want to lose our baby." Steph whispered even softer, "or you."

Tristan had agreed to go out to dinner with Stephanie and her baby-daddy. The only reason he had was because he knew that it was important to her, and she was like a sister to him. Hell, more than just like a sister. For all intents and purposes, she was his sister. He only had a brother, who was older, and though the two had gotten along fairly well they weren't really best friends. Justin was rather nerdy at Hogwarts, and Tristan liked to have fun. Perhaps he had too much fun, considering all that had happened with Tabitha. He was still in shock of it all, and though he'd have loved to talk more about it with Steph, he'd agreed to go to dinner and didn't want to burden/stress her out about it, and Spencer didn't need his nose in his business.
He'd been at the Leaky for about fifteen minutes. He'd had a table with four chairs, though only three would be needed. He'd already had his menu out, though everyone in the wizarding world pretty much had the Leaky Cauldron's menu memorized. He'd already grilled the owner to make sure there would be something that Stephanie could eat. He was nothing if not looking out for her. Which he probably should have done better the night she'd gotten pregnant, which was the last night he'd seen her, since his job kept him out of the country often and she was at Hogwarts most of the time, teaching. He missed her dearly.
After he'd been waiting so long he started to get restless, and looked towards the door. It hadn't opened recently. His eyes moved to the right where the window was. He saw her with who he assumed was Spencer. He was heavily tattooed. Obviously Tristan didn't have a problem with tattoos, since he had one of his own, but he wasn't sure how he felt about all the ones he saw on Spencer. They let him teach like that?
He nodded to the bartender, saying that he was going to be back, and not to let anyone steal his table, which was unlikely, but you never know with the folks that hung out at the Leaky Cauldron. He started towards the door, and opened it. Neither of the two outside were looking at him, and he couldn't help but overhear what was being said. "Losing the baby? Excuse me?"

Spencer was with Stephanie, walking down the street of Diagon Alley. They were to meet a friend of hers, named Tristan. Spencer had never heard of Tristan. Well, he knew several Tristans and was pretty sure there had been a Tristan or two in Hogwarts. So it could be someone he sort of knew. He hadn’t asked the last name of this Tristan. He was occupied with how he could keep Stephanie under less stress. It didn’t seem he could do much, because at any moment, Stephanie could burst into tears. Hormones. Pregnancy caused havoc in a woman’s body. It was even worse than women who had their time of the month.
“A little much?” Spencer repeated. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked. Truthfully, he thought this Tristan was more than a friend to Steph. A sort of brother figure, perhaps? Surely he wouldn’t be meeting an ex boyfriend. Actually, he could deal with an ex boyfriend. A brother figure? He didn’t think he wanted to deal with that. And here he thought he didn’t need to explain himself to a father. They were outside of The Leaky Cauldron, but Stephanie wasn’t heading in. Not before her eyes filled with tears again. Even before Spencer could hug her, she wrapped her arms around him. “Hush now. It’ll be alright.” He said, before he caught her last words.
He wasn’t sure how to react to that, considering his thoughts earlier on in the day. Without the baby, he’d be rid of all responsibility. And where would that leave them? The only reason they were kind of together was because of the baby. That thought must have crossed Stephanie’s mind. But before he had time to say anything else, a man spoke. Spencer turned and gave him with an exasperated look as if saying ‘Really? You have to mention losing the baby out loud?’. “And this would concern you because you are…?” Spencer asked.

"Well, Tristan can be a little protective of me. We're close, like siblings. We met at Hogwarts, and even though he was a few years older, we always meshed well together. He'll try to quiz you. He's always tried to scare off any boyfriends I've had." Steph smiled softly, thinking of her older brother. There was no doubt in their minds, they were siblings. They loved as siblings, and in Steph's mind, that could sometimes be stronger than blood.
Steph was thankful for this wonderful man standing besides her. Spencer was her rock in the crazy world. Steph's hormones were going crazy, she was laughing one minute and in tears the next. Spencer took it all in stride, and did his best. Steph knew things were moving fast. Less then three weeks. Twenty days was all it took for his world to flip upside down. Twenty days ago, Spencer was a single guy. Now, he had a baby on the way, a new flat mate, and was shopping for a new and bigger flat. Yes, things had changed. Spencer hadn't once complained, at least not to Stephanie. This fact was making her feel guilty, Spencer was always making her feel better. He was always putting her needs first, and they followed Steph's plans. Steph promised to do something nice for him.
Steph imagined this situation was confusing for Spencer. She had read women become mothers as soon as they find out they're pregnant. On the other hand, men become fathers when they hold the baby for the first time. It was completely possible Spencer had to emotional attachment to the baby. Steph didn't blame him. They hadn't planned this baby, they hadn't dreamed and wished for the baby. There was no emotional preparation. There was only a completely random 'I'm pregnant'. Steph was so thankful for Spencer, and how amazing he had been the past twenty days.
Tristan had spotted them, and joined them outside. As soon as he opened his mouth, Stephanie knew Spencer and Tristan wouldn't get along. From what Steph has experienced, Spencer liked his privacy. Tristan sometimes had a hard time with boundaries. Removing one arm from Spencer, Steph introduced the two men. "Spencer, this is Tristan. Tristan, this is Spencer."

He was going to introduce himself, but Steph had beat him to it. "You know, the guy who's sister you knocked up when she was drunk?" he said, getting right down to business. He didn't even extend his hand to give him a hand shake. "But it's too late for you to really be scolded for that now isn't it?" It was only now that he truly extended his hand. "Tristan Griepentrog. We went to Hogwarts together for a couple years I do believe?" he said. He didn't mention that Stephanie had actually gotten bonus points that night because she had gotten laid, which was kind of a little game they played with their friends. He didn't need this guy thinking what he'd done was the right thing.
He turned around then and made his way back into the Leaky. He figured they'd follow, and if Spencer didn't he was certainly gonna give him hell for not being able to handle him. If he couldn't, how on Earth was he going to be man enough to take care of a child? Tristan chuckled slightly as he pulled out his chair, which had been marked by his jacket and motioned to the other two chairs, and picked back up his menu. He'd considered ordering ahead of time, for him at least, but decided it would be rude. He was however starving. He glanced over the menu, though he already knew what he was getting.
His mind couldn't help but wonder back to Tabitha Liddel and his daughter Teagan. His arms were almost completely healed, the scars barely visible from the burn he'd acquired from his job not too long ago. Though he hated what had happened, he finally knew about Teagan now. He didn't know if he'd ever forgive Tabitha for keeping it from him, but he was determined to be in Teagan's life. He sighed loudly, in an almost angry way, without really realizing it. He wasn't sure what to do now. He had a daughter to think about, and his job kept him away for months at a time in another country. He had a lot of talking with Tabitha to do, but he wasn't sure they could without screaming at each other, and Teagan didn't need to hear that, nor did she really need to hear what was being planned about her. It was all a big suckfest, and he tried to push it from his mind. "What are you thinking for dinner?" he asked, trying to get a conversation going.

“I suppose when I asked you if you had anyone to inform, I should have asked if you had friends who you thought of as brothers, huh?” Spencer said, shaking his head at Stephanie. How was he to know that she had someone who she considered to be her brother? Judging from the way she was speaking about him, they were close. He let out a silent sigh. He was going to get grilled, yes. That was sure. A little sarcastic remark here and there in the conversation. Not that Spencer had ever been in this situation before, but friends who met their future parents in law or friends who didn’t approve had told him some stories. And since he’d gotten her pregnant on a one night stand, he could expect plenty of remarks.
Ah, so this was Tristan. Spencer could have apologized, since Tristan might have been worried about Stephanie. But no, the man plowed into the pregnancy thing immediately. “I had a feeling you’d remind me of that fact.” Spencer said. Yes, judging him in progress. Spence would not be surprised if his tattoos offended the man as well. People always thought the worst of him when they saw his full sleeve tattoo. What he wanted to say to Tristan might not have been suitable for polite conversation. Especially not in front of Stephanie. For her sake, he’d tolerate this man. At least for this meeting. So instead, he just smiled at him.
Shaking Tristan’s hand firmly (although he might have wanted to break his arm), Spencer smiled again. “If you’re a British wizard, then chances are quite high that you’ve attended Hogwarts.” He replied, being sickeningly polite. “Spencer Stark. Very nice to meet you.” Okay, so that last statement might have been over the top. Oh well. He had said it. It was better than asking him to shut the hell up. He took Stephanie’s hand in his unconsciously as they followed Tristan back into the Leaky Cauldron. Obviously he was going to have to sit with this man and endure more of his snarky comments. He would not be able to answer to himself if he couldn’t sit with Tristan and play nice.
He waited for Stephanie to sit down, making sure she was comfortable before taking the seat next to her. Food. Hmm. Spencer always preferred Muggle food. He was sure wizard food wasn’t too different, but he never knew when he would be getting a surprise in his food. He had been a tiny eleven year old when he ordered a soup. The ingredients started jumping out of the soup. It had been quite alarming for the boy who’d just entered the wizarding world. He took a quick look at the menu, picked something that looked normal and placed the menu back into the table.
Tristan sighed, and Spence glanced at him. “Something wrong, Tristan?” He asked, not unkindly. Not kindly either. Just very very neutral. He returned his attention back to Stephanie. “What’d you like, Steph?” He smiled at her. Tristan had asked the same question and he supposed she could just answer them both at once.

This was their one night out, the night where Tabitha could reward her daughter and spend one on one time with the young girl and take her out to a place that she liked. It wasn’t just for Teagan though, it was for herself as well, and being locked up in the house all the time wasn’t something that Tabitha had ever really liked, and so to be able to go out like this, was something of a reward for herself. “are you sure you want to come here? We could go somewhere else, you know?” It was about the second or even third time that Tabitha had asked this of the six year old girl, who had been the one to decide that she wanted to go to the leaky cauldron. All Tabitha got in return was the fluffy, and rather worn out looking blue monkey thrust towards her and nodded at the same time that Teagan did.
Clearly there was no real getting out of going to the leaky cauldron, even if they had eaten here just a week or so ago. Though it probably didn’t help that they were already at the door step of the mixed building and Tabitha sighed before nodding herself. “Alright, hold on tight to Blue, we’ll have our dinner here.” And a cheer erupted from Teagan as the girl turned the handle and moved towards the restaurant, however it was what was inside that Tabitha first caught sight of that made her want to pick up Teagan and bolt from the leaky cauldron. They were standing not more than fifty feet away from them was not only Tristan but the patient that Tabitha had just taken care of a matter of days ago. Oh no, this was clearly not the sort of place that she wanted to be at right then, and she was about to try and sneak away without being noticed when Teagan gave away the fact that they were there.
“Mom, look it’s Prince T!” Teagan said with a wide smile as she waved happily in the direction of Tristan and then had the blue monkey wave as well. Tabitha groaned under her breath, well fuck, now there was no way she could leave without it being obvious that she was avoiding him. And of course, she didn’t want to come off as someone cruel outside of work when it came to the patients that were sitting inside with him, “Ahh…yes, yes it is…” Tabitha said slowly and gently took the hand of Teagan and pulled her from the entry way. “Lets find a table, alright?”

Steph sighed. Spencer and Tristan were just meeting, and they already hated each other. Steph knew they were very different people. Tristan and Steph liked to party, get drunk, and sleep with strangers. Spencer seemed to be a family man, through and through. In the three weeks they’d been spending time, Spencer never swore and drank. Tristan and Steph loved to swear.
As they walked into The Leaky Cauldron, Spencer grabbed her hand. She danced a little inside. This was progress. Before, Steph was always the one to initiate public contact. Once it was started, Spencer had no trouble with it. Steph sat down next to Spencer, grabbing the menu. She looked it over, nothing sounds too appetizing, but the soup wasn’t too horrible. “I’m thinking the soup. I’m not terribly hungry.” Steph put the menu back on the table, and placed her hand on Spencer’s leg. She rubbed his leg, hoping to relax him.
Steph looked up, she heard a small child’s voice. As she spun her head around, it was Tabitha. She was holding hands with a small girl, Steph assumed it was her daughter. Steph spun back around, looking at Tristan’s reaction.

Tristan smiled. Already Spencer seemed like he didn't like Tristan. Good. He wasn't out for Spencer to like him. He just wanted to make sure that he was going to stick around and take the responsibility of his kid. So far he seemed like he was going to, but there was still about seven months till April and a lot could happen between him and Stephanie. Stephanie was a bit of a handful, and that was when she wasn't pregnant. He wanted to make sure Spencer was good enough for her. He was waiting for him to stand up to him. Stephanie didn't have any parents or real siblings, she was only twenty one, and Spencer was older than he was.
He looked at Spencer. "Wouldn't want you to forget that, now would I?" he stated. He posed it as a question, but he'd meant it hypothetically. He could tell the guy wasn't going to forget. He wasn't going to do the father act though, get out the shotgun and ask "so what are your intentions with my sister?" It was obvious he had just wanted to sleep with her, and got more than he bargained for. He couldn't blame Spencer for that. He actually thought that Spencer was doing better than he'd done, though at least Steph had told Spencer about the kid, instead of running like Tabitha did.
"Ah yes, Hogwarts indeed. Ravenclaw, graduated in 2017. I was born here, but I can't much consider myself British. I work in Egypt a lot, among some other places, and have a lot of places to call home," he said. He wondered if it would relieve Spencer that he was going back to his job soon and out of his hair. He looked at the man in front of him, thinking of saying just that, but when he looked at Stephanie he decided against it. The day was young, and their lunch hadn't even started yet. Save it for later, he thought to himself.
When all three of them were finally seated and looking through the menu he had become aware of his audible sigh. Spencer had just brought it up to him. "Huh? Oh, everything's just peachy keen, man," he said, forcing a smile. Under his breath he added, "peachy fucking keen." He didn't think that the guy needed to know all of his business with Tabitha and Teagan. Stephanie knew some of it but not all. "Just some life changing things happening, and I don't just mean with my sister." He could offer up that much, but this lunch wasn't about him. It was about getting to know someone that was important to his pregnant sister. He and Spencer had asked Steph almost the same thing. He rolled his eyes, but awaited her answer of soup anyway.
He was about to call the barkeeper over when he heard the bell overhead open, but he was going to ignore it. They weren't expect anyone else in their little party, so there wasn't much of a need to bother to care who had also come to eat at the Leaky. But the excited sound of a little girl's voice forced him to look over. Prince T, that's what his daughter truly knew him as. He looked over and sure enough, there she was... With Tabitha. He blanched, ever so slightly, and waved at her, smiling. He noticed Stephanie looking at him, and gave her eyes that said "don't look at me like that, just go about your business." He looked back at the menu, forgetting what he had wanted to order. Why did Tabitha and Teagan have to show up now?

Forget it? Chances were that he was going to remember that the whole of his life to come. Whether the baby was born or not, Spencer was quite sure he wouldn't forget Stephanie. At least Tristan wasn't outrightly asking what he was intending to do with Stephanie. Spencer thought his intentions were quite clear. He was going to raise the child with Stephanie. Or else he wouldn't be here right now. Of course, if he was asked what his relationship with Stephanie was, he didn't think he could answer. Friends raising a baby. That was how Steph put it, right?
Egypt. The only professional he knew that worked there were Curse Breakers. After so many years, Spencer was quite surprised that there was still treasure to be found there. He supposed there were many treasures that were yet to be found. But the main thing that Spencer got out of that answer was that Tristan was a wandering soul. Which meant he might not be staying. Why was he even back here in England then? It just created more trouble for him. Now that was something he wasn't going to mention to Stephanie.
Spencer found that he liked how Tristan forced a smile onto his face and then muttered some curse words. Perhaps he needed to do more of this poking his nose into Tristan's life thing in front of Stephanie. Passive aggressive. Was that the term used to describe this? “Okay.” Spence said, in a tone that he'd used many times while he was in the Ministry. It was a tone that wouldn't be considered rude, but at the same time bordered on insubordination if the other person was a supervisor.
“Soup. Okay. Just not their jumping bean soup, Steph.” Spencer said, before he felt her hand on his leg. If she was trying to make him feel relaxed, well, it wasn't working. Okay, maybe a little. He gave her a faint smile, before he noticed a series of odd actions. Tristan waved to someone, who Spencer assumed he knew. He followed Steph's gaze and saw their Healer with who he assumed was her daughter, since there was enough of a resemblance. He noted Tristan's reaction. He saw the look Stephanie was giving Tristan. “A friend?” He asked the two. Stephanie didn't seem to know the Healer when they saw her.

Oh yes, this whole chain of reaction was the sort of thing that Tabitha hated, it made her want to bolt even more so than she had just seconds before. Chewing the bottom of her lip she paused sucked in a breath and offered a smile of sorts towards the table of people and was about the regrab Teagan's hand to tug her in the opposite direction when the young girl decided that it would be a better idea to go and see her Prince T and his friends. Oh yes, she had decided after meeting him for the first time that this was Teagan's Prince T. "Ah...T.." Tabitha mumbled as she watched the young girl prance over to where Tristan was with a wide smile on her face. "Shit..." she cursed under breath and stood up straight once more.
"What're you doing Prince T?" Teagan asked looking up to him and peering at the table that they were sitting at. Carefully looking between Stephanie and then Spencer, uncertain of the two strangers until Tabitha came over and gently placed a hand on Teagan's head and smiled once more to her two patients, or well, three, depending if one would consider the unborn child in Stephanie's child a patient. "Hey..." Tabitha said with a slight wave. "Ah, this is my daughter Teagan. You guys look good," oh yes, small talk, Tabitha could at least manage that, couldn't she? This would truly a test of whether or not she would actually be able to do that or not, well successfully anyway, especially when she was getting unwanted vibes from Tristan.
And somehow from the sort of glancing that Stephanie was giving Tristan she had a feeling that Stephanie at least had an idea of who Tabitha really was, and who Teagan was in terms of Tristan. Not something that was really helping to situation at the time either, and so Tabitha lightly tapped Teagan's head and motioned to one of the tables being cleared of its used dishes. "We'll let you guys eat..." Tabitha said slowly only to recieve a disapproving look from Teagan as she rooted her feet to her spot. "Mooooommmm..." she almost whined and Tabitha again mentally cursed her luck.

“So, Tabitha and Tristan dated when they were in school together. Tris never told me the whole story, he hates talking about it. But, from what I’ve understood, Tabitha basically took off out of the blue. Tristan didn’t hear from her for six years, when she ended up being his healer. And, it turns out the reason she left was because she was pregnant!” Steph whispered to Spencer, taking a big gasp of air at the end.
When Tabitha awkwardly walked over to the table, Steph looked at Tristan. Prince T? What was that about? Things were awkward, that much was true. Spencer and Steph weren’t talking about things that needed talking about. Spencer and Tristan hated each other. Tabitha didn’t want to be there, and Tristan didn’t want her there? However, Teagen just seemed excited to see Tristan. Did she know Tristan was her father?
“Oh, nonsense Tabitha! Please, join us! We just ordered, you and your daughter can eat with us!” Steph said, smiling. When things were awkward, you could always count on Steph to make them worse.

Even though Spencer wasn't asking questions about him, Tristan could tell he was curious. That was rather obvious. But if he was in Spencer's situation he'd be curious too. "I've been a curse breaker for about five years or so now," he said. Would it kill this guy to just outright ask, instead of sitting there thinking about what he said? He would have asked, or at least commented on it. He tried not to roll his eyes. He wasn't seeing much potential with this guy.
Teagan ran over to their table. He smiled for her benefit, and picked her up. "Ah, Teagan! I'm just having dinner with my sister, Stephanie, and her good friend Spencer," he said, as Tabitha walked up and introduced Teagan. Teagan slipped of his lap to stand by Tabitha, who definitely did not want to be there. Good. He didn't want her there either, not while he was meeting Spencer for the first time.
Even though Stephanie was whispering, he could hear everything she said, and he glared at her. The last thing he had wanted was Spencer knowing his entire business. She was going to get some words later. But did Stephanie notice the glare? Apparently not, because now she'd invited the two to sit with them. "Ah.. yes.... Why don't you join us?" he said, trying hard to sound pleased and cheerful, but it was obvious that it was forced. He stood up to get a chair from a nearby table, since there was only one more at their table. His mood plummeted. He was supposed to only be meeting Spencer and making sure that he was right to be a dad, not having to deal with Tabitha. He was, however, very glad to see Teagan again.

Spencer looked at Stephanie as she narrated the story to him. There was a little kid running towards their table and she gave him the short version, since Tabitha was nearing their table. “Oh, wow.” Spencer said, glancing over at Tristan just as the other man was glaring at Stephanie. Spencer really didn't have much time to react to this sudden news because Steph was now inviting the mother and child to join them. “Hello again.” He greeted the brunette that joined them. “Hi Teagan. Hungry? You're just in time for dinner.” He smiled at the young girl.
As he waited for any reply he'd get, Spencer thought about the story that Steph had told him. So Tristan had gotten a girl pregnant too. Except the girl didn't tell him about it like Steph did. She went away and now he knew he was a father, apparently. The atmosphere at the table was getting awkward, that he was aware of. It had been tense enough when it was just Tristan and him. Add on unresolved issues; for Spencer didn't think Tristan had resolved his issues judging from his reaction to the mother and daughter pair showing up, and the whole atmosphere was just wonderful.
Spencer had his share of unpleasant situations, but this one could be in the top five. How often did one find themselves at the same table with the mother of their child, and her so called brother, as well as that brother's ex girlfriend and daughter? Not often, he'd bet. He could use a Firewhiskey right about now, but he supposed it wouldn't be such a good idea to drink in front of a pregnant woman and a child.
