Charlize was down in the dungeons working on a few potions. For her seventh year class she was going to show them some of the more powerful potions around the Wizarding world and today’s lesson would showcase Amortentia. Of course, she was not going to get them to brew it as that would be far to dangerous and more than her job’s worth. She was going to get them to brew draught of the living dead instead.
Charlize had been looking at Amortentia and liquid luck for a while. It was part of the side research she was doing. To brew it took time and concentration and she was proud that this batch was finally done. It had the characteristic mother of pearl sheen and the spiralling steam. When she was done showing the class it would be bottled up and set off to the ministry. The last thing they needed was any of this in circulation around the castle. The steam was rising and the potion itself looked so beautiful.
Quietly she took a slow and deep breath. The smell of coffee hit her first. Charlize’s first true love. Coffee was something that kept her going. Another breath and the smell of parchment filled her nostrils. Yes, the familiar smell of books. A last breath and she stopped and thought for a moment. Not so familiar. A slightly more musky smell. She closed her eyes and the thought of Geoff in the Astronomy tower filled her thoughts. It was his scent. Her eyes flung open and she moved away from the cauldron. She wasn’t going to go there.
Relationships were messy enough let alone trying to conduct one with another member of staff. her thoughts flicked over to Steph, her friend and fellow member of staff. She was in a sort of relationship with Spencer and now expecting a child. If that wasn’t messy she wasn’t sure what was. Life was good alone. Separate from people. Professional relationships with perhaps a few choice friends. Chaz was worried about Steph though. She was still young and children were a handful. She pinched the bridge of her nose trying to think of if there was a way she could help her.

Steph was looking for Charlize. She felt like rubbish, suffering from horrible evening sickness. Steph was hoping Charlize would having that would help. She had gone to hospital first, but Arabella seemed to have her hands full. There was stomach bug going around the castle, and Arabella had her hands full with that.
As Steph walked through the dungeons, she thought of the night she had with Spencer last night. Steph had struggled with falling asleep, and after a few hours she had gone to Spencer’s room. After talking for a few minutes, the pair had sex again. Steph wasn’t clear on her feelings. Obviously, she cared about Spencer. After all, he was the father of her child. But, was there more than that?
“Charlize? Are you in here?” Steph called out, as she entered one of the classrooms. As she rounded the corner, she spotted her friend. “Oh, there you are! I’ve been looking for you,” Steph walked up to the table. The closer she got to Charlize, the stronger a smell became. It smelled like the ocean and flannel. She liked the smell, breathing deeply.
“What are you working on? Do you have a second to help me with something? I’ve got such bad evening sickness tonight. I was wondering if you had anything that could help. Arabella is up to her eyes in sick kids.” Steph knew she didn’t look like her normal self. She was pale, and had bags under her eyes. Spencer and Stephanie had stayed up much to late the night before, causing bags. The paleness came from being so nauseous, and not being able to keep anything down. For the last two weeks, the evening sickness had been horrid. Steph was sure she was losing weight.

Charlize was pulled out of her thoughts when a voice broke through. “Yes I am here.” she called out. Steph appeared and Chaz smiled but it faded slightly when she saw how pale her friend was looking. “I was just thinking of you.” Chaz admitted before gesturing to the chairs by her desk. “Take a seat.” It looked as if she had a right to worry.
When Steph asked what she was working on Chaz gave a small laugh. “Amortentia. I assume you are smelling things you like.” This seemed to be one potion that caught a lot of people’s attention. “Of course I can help you.” Charlize would help out as much as she could. She nodded at Steph’s problem and went to her bookcase to pull out a book. Chaz brought it back to the case and flicked through the pages before finding what she wanted.
“It’ll take about fifteen minutes to brew but it’ll work. I’ll stick what’s left in vials and you can keep it with you.” Charlize said to her with a soft smile. She began to move the Amortentia carefully, all the while being hit with the smell of Geoff. Chaz put the cauldron down and grumbled before going to get another. She came back to the desk and began to set it up asking, “How have you been coping with it all? You look so tired Steph.”

[ "Aw, stop it. You sure do know to make a girl feel good about herself." Steph smiled softly, having a hard time finding the energy to laugh. "Thank you, for everything."
"I'm exhausted. I can't sleep at night, I get these horrible headaches. Then, come morning, I get these dizzy spells which make it so hard to get out of bed. Oh, let's not forget the morning sickness. But did you know it lasts all day? And, its worse at night time?" Steph started ranting. She didn't like complaining to Spencer, she felt tell it pained him to hear it. Spencer seemed to feel guilty, and she thought he felt bad that he could do nothing to releave her symptoms.
"Sometimes I wonder how hell this happens. I never thought I would be a mom at twenty one." Steph felt guilty for feeling this way. She was excited for this baby, she truly was. However, she couldn't help but wish it was happening in three years.

Chaz turned away from Steph and rummaged the shelves for ingredients. She listened as Steph complained about her symptoms. Unfortunately Chaz knew very little about pregnancy and whether any of it was normal or not. She knew about as much as there was morning sickness and that was it. "Have you seen a healer yet?" Chaz asked as she turned back around with her arms full of bottle and bags that she put down on the table.
She began to cut up some roots before laughing slightly to herself. "Really? Do you? You had sex and as much as I can gather it was unprotected." Chaz chucked the roots into the cauldron before saying, "I couldn't imagine having a baby right now. I think you are rather brave Steph. You and Spencer both." Heck. Parenthood at any age was scary.

”Well I’m glad that it’s nothing out of the ordinary.” Charlize said to her. ”They sound like hell to deal with though.” She crushed some of the ingredients before adding them to the cauldron and then took her wand and set a fire at the bottom to heat it. ”How is Spencer dealing with it all?” Chaz asked. It was probably tough on him in a different way than what it was for Steph.
”I’m pretty sure you’re glad you didn’t get pregnant earlier though.” she said. There was a small blush on Charlize’s cheeks. She was odd when it came to love and physical aspects of it. To some she seemed frigid but Chaz just didn’t know how to express herself very well to people let alone let them be intimate with her in that way. ”And I’d hope you’d be more careful from now on... I’m probably sounding like a mother now.” She gave a small laugh before adding some liquid in the pot and calming the fire.

Steph groaned. How was Spencer dealing with all this? “I don’t even know. Spencer’s been great, he’s doing everything by the books. However, I get the feeling like he’s dragging his feet. I know this baby wasn’t planned, but come on!”
Steph lifted her head up, and looked at Charlize. She was blushing. “What about you and Geoff? I’ve heard you two are getting pretty close,” she teased. Steph needed girl talk. She’d hadn’t had quality girl talk time since August. Since she was teaching, and most of her friends had jobs, Steph didn’t get to see them as much as she would have liked before school started. All her friends ranged in ages, twenty one to twenty five. However, Steph was defiantly the most party girl of them all. She spent most of her nights out, and most of her days sleeping. Oddly enough, she wasn’t missing it that much.

”I assume it feels different for a guy. I mean they aren’t the one carrying the baby around with them for nine months.” Chaz gave a shrug. It probably seemed less real to them and so maybe Spencer was dragging his feet. She hadn’t really spoken to him about it. Chaz tended to keep to herself with Steph and Geoff as the exception to the rules. ”I’m sure he’ll sort himself out soon.” Charlize told her as she stirred the cauldron.
The cauldron and contents was almost tipped when Steph mentioned Geoff. Chaz’s face flushed a bright pink colour. What was she even meant to say to that? Pointless denying it due to her stupid blush. ”There isn’t really a me and Geoff... I mean.. I ... I don’t know if it’s such a bright idea to start something with him.” Charlize admitted. Heck. She needed to talk to someone and since Steph had raised the issue why not confide in her. Chaz dropped her eyes to the potion book and read on a few paragraphs further. ”I’ve just gotten divorced. He’s almost ten years older. We work together. There’s a lot of potential for things to get messy.”

“Wait, you were married? Why didn’t I know that?” Steph sat up straighter, pulling her hair into a ponytail. “Just because you work together is a stupid reason, there isn't a rule against it. As for the age, in my mind? You are both mature adults, you can do whatever you want.”
“With any relationship, things could get messy. All that matters is how much do you care about that person? Let Mama Stephanie tell you a story,” she paused. “Once, my co-worked set me up on a blind date. The date was with a boy named Tristan, my best friend in the whole world. We ended up going on a few dates, but it was too weird. But, we didn’t let it wreak things between us.”
“The moral of that story is, don’t let the future scare you from trying. I think?” Steph laughed. What did she know? The last time Steph had a healthy relationship was never.

Charlize realised what she had said but as she had decided, Steph was an exception to the rule. ”You didn’t know because it’s not something I’m proud of. Short story of it is,” Charlize took a deep breath and looked at her friend so she could tell she was being serious. ”Married a muggle at 19 to help my parents business. Stayed married to him even though I didn’t love him. He;s currently in a muggle prison for manslaughter and we just got divorced.” It was becoming easier to talk about it. She did feel ashamed though.
Chaz was listening to what Steph had to say. They were both mature but she had no idea what he wanted. She had no idea what she wanted. She gave a smile at Steph’s story. ”Steph I like him so much. I can’t stop thinking of him and the other bloody potion smells like him.” she admitted openly. ”I just don’t want to rush. But if anything happens... you’ll be the first to know.” Chaz told her with a laugh. Maybe when they went on their little trip there would be something to cement them. ”This is almost done.” Chaz said staring into the cauldron.
