"I'm Tabitha Liddel, you can call me Tabitha and I'll be the doctor to help you find out the baby's sex." She greeted the two as she entered the room. A soft smile coming to her features before looking over the clipboard with the information on it. "So can you tell me how far along you think you might be?" Ahhh, the typical question that often had several women rather squirmy when it came to actually finding out if one was pregnant. At least with the woman that had come in at this time she looked old enough to be taking care of a baby, or at least older than the fifteen year old that Tabitha had just told was going to have a baby. And at least with this one, who as it said on the information sheet Tabitha, was Stephanie had brought at least a male companion with her. Tabitha always hoped that when a guy actually bothered to come to these sorts of things that they were the father, or at least someone who was going to step in and help raise the child.
Tabitha had raised her own daughter esstentially on her own, except for the few times when friends helped and of course the assistance from her own mother. But she knew that she'd always hoped that maybe she could get the courage and go up to Teagan's father and actually tell him the news, but of course six years had passed since then and as of right then and there he was clueless. "And can I ask if he is the father of this baby?" She might as well get all the extra information that she would need, especially since she was only allowed to reveal so much information when it came to patient-doctor confidentiality. Of course, if this Spencer was the father then she had nothing that she needed to worry about. And she didn't see anything on the filled out forms that said she needed to keep information from him. "It says here on the form that this is your first child? Is that correct Ms. Bresler?" So she wasn't married to him, ah well, it wasn't uncommon these days to find that many women were pregnant out of wedlock.
Besides, it was hardly Tabitha's job to pass any sort of judgement on her or anyone else that walked through these doors and wanted her to help them. "Go a head and lay back on the table here, and I'll begin the test as soon as you're ready." Tabitha added with a soft smile, and scooted herself into one of the chairs. Pulling herself up to the padded table herself, where next to it was a sort of large moniter that would display the images that they would get from the inside. "Oh right, do either of you have any questions for me?"

“Well, we had sex on July 28. I actually saw a muggle doctor before the start of term, we both teach at Hogwarts. He put my due date as April 17, 2024, which would make me almost eleven weeks along.” Steph’s heart was beating so fast, she thought the whole room could hear it. She was terrified that something would be wrong with the baby, something that would cost the tiny child it’s life. She was worried the muggle doctor was wrong, and there was no baby. Steph quickly realized that was a stupid thought. There was a baby, the extending stomach, the evening sickness, the headaches, the back pain, this was all proof of this baby.
“Yes, Spencer is the father,” Steph nodded. She knew the Healer was just doing her job, and had to ask these questions. They weren’t married, the Healers couldn’t assume it was Spencer’s baby. “Yes, this is my first child.” Steph was sitting on the exam table, Spencer was standing next to her. Steph refolded the old leather bikers jacket she had thrown on. They'd spent the morning packing up Steph's flat, and she'd found the jacket. The jacket had joined her collection a few weeks after her fifteenth birthday, six long years ago. She smoothed the blue shirt she was wearing, but nothing helped her nerves. Steph turned to look at him, her face showing her nerves. Needing reassurance, she held her hand out to him.
“I have a few questions. I’ve started getting really bad nosebleeds in the morning, is this normal? I’ve also been getting horrible headaches and dizzy spells at night. Also, my stomach had been hurting. It almost feels like cramps, but a lot worse. Then, at other times, it feels like a balloon slowly inflating inside me.”

Spencer did not spend much time in St Mungo’s. Actually, he didn’t think he had seen the inside of St Mungo’s before. No, he was pretty sure he hadn’t. It didn’t look any different from a Muggle hospital. Except maybe the patients. Yes, definitely the patients. Spencer thought to himself as he spied someone with a plant growing on their head. But he was not here to gaze in wonder at the patients. He was here with Stephanie as they tried to determine the gender of their baby. Things were certainly moving fast for them. First he received news of her pregnancy. Then he agreed to play a role in the baby’s life. And he wasn’t quite sure if they were in a relationship. They had both said no relationships, just friends raising a baby. Friends… with benefits?
They entered the room where a Healer was. She greeted them with a warm enough smile and started asking questions. Those were some pretty standard questions that Spence assume Muggle doctors asked as well. But Stephanie’s answer to the first one made him chuckle. “Ever so direct, Steph.” Spencer said, shaking his head. That was something he realised about her throughout the weeks they’d spent together. As fast as things were moving, Spencer found that he didn’t mind it, not with Stephanie. He nodded his head at the next question. Would he be furious if the baby turned out not to be his? Yes, quite. But he didn’t feel like Stephanie had any reason to lie. She wanted to let everyone know about this pregnancy. He highly doubted she be lying to him.
Spencer took hold of Stephanie’s hand, before putting his other hand over their hands. “It’ll be fine, Steph.” He assured her before she asked a whole bunch of questions. The nose bleeds had worried Spencer a bit. Actually, everything that Stephanie experienced worried him. He wasn’t much of a worrier and always tried to make her laugh to feel better, but there was only so much he could do. His parents had wrote back to him and although they were surprised to hear of this (because Spencer had expressed his desire not to settle down many times), they were supportive of him raising the baby. He looked back at the Healer and waited for her answers. He sure hoped these were normal symptoms.

Tabitha nodded as each of her questions were answered and scribbled them down on the clippboard before she placed it to the side and smiled between the two. "Well, congradulations on your first child then," It was one of those things that Tabitha could say and actually mean it when it came to her patients, the whole picture grabbing of the abby was one of the things that Tabitha really loved about this job. Even more so when it came time to actually get an idea of what the gender was, which was at the stage that these two were at. "Are you guys hoping for a boy or a girl?" she asked flipping on the large moniter and then moving back over to where Stephanie sat and pulled out the wand. "This really isn't much different than at a Muggle's doctor office, we just use the wand to help us get a clearer vision of the baby," Tabitha informed the two before she murmured the correct set of words and the tip of the wand brightened.
"You're going to feel a bit of pressure when we start, but its nothing to worry about and if you would like me to stop please tell me." Tabitha stated, pushing some of the dark hair from her face. "And I'll help you guys to identify the different limbs and of course, the gender of the child if you want to know the gender."
The symptoms she listed off were not the sort of things that Tabitha liked to hear, especially when it came to such an early stage in the pregnancy. It made her want to put her on bed rest, or perhaps have the father of the child make sure that this mother wasn't overworking herself at whatever it was that she did. "I'm not the sort of person who tries to beat around the bush with these things..." she started and half debated if this should be one of those times where she should be a bit softer, but she decided against it. These were hardly the sort of signs that you simply brushed off, "The abdominal pain and that sort of balloon feelings are what really make me sort of weary. They're often warnings of what could be a miscarriage." There, it was simple and to the point. Maybe not the gentlest of ways, but Tabitha figured that the truth simple and out there was what was best.

"I'm not hoping for one more than the other. I just want a healthy baby." Steph said, gripping Spencer's hand tighter. She was nervous and excited. When the test was started, Steph didn't feel anything. After a few moments, she felt the pressure Tabitha warned her about. It slowly started to hurt more, just barely bearable. Breathing deep, Steph winced. She gritted her teeth, and squeezed her eyes shut. She would get through it, for her baby. Steph knew she had a low pain tolerance, she always had.
Steph's eyes shot open. The pain was forgotten as soon as she heard the word 'miscarriage'. "What? Are you serious? Please tell me you're kidding," Steph pleaded. "Is there anything I can do? I'll do anything. I'll go on bed rest, I'll keep my feet up. I'll teach from a chair, a big comfy chair. I'll do anything." Tears threatening to spill over, Steph looked at Spencer.

“Wouldn’t mind a boy.” Spencer quipped, after Stephanie said she didn’t care about the gender, as long as it was healthy. That was on his mind as well. A healthy baby. One that ate and drank when it was supposed to. No long nights at the hospitals after it was born. And he wanted Stephanie to be healthy as well. She looked good one day and the next day, she’d look sick. There were no noticeable changes to anything when the Healer performed the spell, but the grip Steph had on his hand grew tighter. He was looking forward to seeing their baby on the screen and seeing how it developed. His mother had offered to look after it, if they were too busy. He hadn’t told Stephanie that yet.
Spencer looked at the Healer when she told them what worried her about the symptoms that Stephanie experienced. “I don’t think she would joke about such a thing, Steph.” Spencer said, reaching over to kiss the top of her head. “Deep breaths, Steph, deep breaths.” He had become quite fond of saying that these days, especially when Stephanie was getting panicky or worried. “Is there anything that can be done to reduce or stop those pains?” Spencer asked. “A big comfy chair will help any Professor.” He said, grinning slightly at Stephanie in an attempt to make her feel better. “She said warnings of what might be a miscarriage. Which means there might be ways to prevent it.” Spencer told the brunette. “Right?” He directed that question to the Healer, whose name was Tabitha if he remembered from her introduction.
As much as this baby was an accident, Spencer wasn’t so evil as to wish Stephanie would lose the baby. Sure, without the baby, he’d be more or less rid of the responsibility. He should be happy about that. It was an accident baby. But losing it would cause Steph pain and Spencer, despite everything, did not want to cause hurt to her. Losing a baby or a child was never a pleasant thing to go through.

Tabitha was not the sort of person who got any sort of enjoyment out of the fact that she had to deliver sour news. Especially when it came to the life of a child, but sometimes she did need to be the person with bad news, or foreboding bad news. But for her, it meant that she would also do, suggest, order, whatever she needed to in order to help make sure that any unborn child she had coming her way would make it out of the womb. At least to the best of her ability anyway, and so she would have to nod to the questions being thrown at her. “Sorry, I would never joke about this sort of thing, which means what I’ve mentioned is true.” She said slowly and bit the bottom of her lip. “Bed rest really would be ideal, and make sure you’re taking any sort of prenatal vitamins you were given. You’ve gotta let the baby strengthen itself in order for the baby to come out,” Tabitha paused to let that sink in before she turned to the monitor once more.
“You wanted a boy, right?” she said as she watched the grey, black, and white image appear on the screen and glanced between the two of them once more. She moved the wand gently from one side to another as if to get a better image of the small life form that was within her. “Looks like the little bugger isn’t giving up on you just yet either,” she said and glanced back to them with a half smile, I can tell you that you’re getting what you want, it’s a little boy,” she said allowing herself to carefully study the diagram once more. “At least from what we can tell for now it looks like you’re going to have a little boy. It’ll be more definite when you’re about twenty two to twenty three weeks along and you can come back and we’ll make sure that he is in fact, still a boy.” It was always a bit of a joke between the other healers and herself.
Because there had been those times that they would announce the sex of the child as one thing and would then turn out to be the opposite gender all together when it came to the check up that they went to the next time around. “So congratulations on your little boy,” Maybe all the news here hadn’t been all that great, but it wasn’t like she would allow herself to wallow in bad news, not when it at least seemed like the child was doing alright now. However, Tabitha also knew that these things could change within the blink of an eye, but that, she would keep to herself.

“So, bed rest and vitamins? Is that all I can so? I teach for a living, how can I do that, and be on bed rest?” Steph was caught between a rock and a hard place. She had two choices, her job and her baby. She could only choose one. How on earth would she make this choice? Steph spent one second thinking about it, and her mind was made up. “If bed rest means our baby will be okay, I’ll do it. The school can find another teacher, and we can set up our flat quickly. I’m sure Tristan, and my mates will help us.” Those last sentences were directed at Spencer, she looked to him for confirmation.
“A boy? It’s a boy,” Steph’s face light up. A boy, a little baby boy. A son Spencer would teach how to play ball. A son who would look like his father in every way, but he would have his mother’s attitude. She looked to Spencer, “A son, Babe. A little, tiny, adorable boy.” Steph smiled, and kissed Spencer quickly.
Steph was thrilled. She didn’t realize it, but she had been hoping for a son. She wanted a little boy. She wanted a mini Spencer, someone for him to do fatherly things with. She wanted a nephew for Tristan, and she wanted a son for herself.

The Healer told them what they could do. Professional advice. Spencer was going to take it. It wasn't like he knew a lot about babies and pregnancy. He nodded his head at the Healer's words, hoping that Stephanie would be well, sort of comforted by that. He held her hand as she spoke. But Spencer thought he detected a hint of panic in her voice. Of course there would be. She didn't seem to give much thought to what option she was going to take. “Yes, I'm sure.” Spencer said, having no clue how this Tristan they were going to meet later would be able to help. They could help set up the flat, that was true. But he didn't think any of them could help in anything else. He'd have to talk to Stephanie later about this.
At least she seemed to cheer up when the Healer showed them the gender of their baby. He looked at the monitor, smiling softly before getting a kiss from Stephanie. “Looks like I got my wish.” Spencer told her, and glancing at the Healer when she spoke some more. “See, he isn't giving up just yet. You'll be fine. Both of you.” Spence quirked a smile at the joke the Healer made. “We'll do that.” He assured her. “Would we need to come back every so often to check on how the baby is doing? I mean, Muggle women do that. Every month they visit the doctor that specializes in babies and stuff.”
“Thank you. So I guess we're all done here. Unless you have anything you want to ask, Steph?” Spencer looked down at the brunette.

Tabitha knew that breaking this kind of news was the sort of thing that would send anyone into a panic, she'd seen more than one mother freak out and even strike out at her. Especially if this child they were carrying were miracle children, or a way to hold onto someone that they had cared about. But thankfully for her, and what seemed to be the relationship between the two the male at least had an outwards stronghold on himself and her. "I'll snap a couple photos of your boy, and you can pick them up at the front desk on your way out." She offered as she removed the wand from the stomach and back stepped as she listened to what was being said.
Tabitha nodded, "Keep up with fluids and healthy foods for yourself and the baby with your medicine, and plenty of rest. I'm sure, as you said, that they can find someone to teach in your place." It was always important to get rest when pregnant, Tabitha knew that she still wished she could get more rest than she typically did. But she would still never wish away Teagan, and as the name Tristan came slipping from Stephanie's lips she couldn't help but tense a bit, before reminding herself that there were plenty of other Tristan's in the world. "Yes, you'll need to have a supportive and understanding environment." Support, food, and rest, was the same thing that Tabitha would say to any mother who may be having struggles with their child, and often it would turn out fine. Although, there were still those cases when things didn't turn out in the way that they had been hoping for.
Turning her attention back towards Spencer she nodded to his question, "Yes, we're really not all that different from a Muggle Hospital when it comes to things like this, minus the magic and all. So you guys should make a point to schedule your next appointment when you pick up the pictures." Tabitha said taking note on the noteboard once more and offered a soft smile to them, "You can schedule it with me, or any of the other doctors that may be on call for whenever you plan your next appointment here."
