This was starting to look like the most stressful of her years here at Hogwarts. Her first year was relatively stress free. She was eleven and had enjoyed her first year. Messing up spells weren't that big a deal then. At least, she thought so. Or perhaps she was less mindful of how people viewed her then. She certainly didn't like messing up spells now. She cringed whenever she was expected to perform a spell and failed to do so. Luckily, it didn't happen often now. She never understood why others were so mean when someone made a mistake. Humans erred. They couldn't perform a spell, but that didn't mean they failed as a human being. Vi did not see the need to put the person down.
Violetta was generally a patient person and she thought she could tolerate others well enough. But there was a particular girl who got on her nerves just a tad too much lately. The brunette took a deep breath as she neared the Gryffindor common room. She didn't need to come here. She didn't sleep here anymore. The Head Girl and Boy had a dorm all to themselves on another level. But she missed her friends. Plus, there was only so much time she could spend on her own. The silence in the room wasn't to her liking. Lysander was a pleasant enough boy to spend time with, but Vi needed other Gryffindors around her.
Well, she got her wish. The moment she entered the common room, she was surrounded by noise. Vi smiled slightly, surveying the scene in front of her. It was something she did ever since she became a Prefect. She didn't pick the person who was up to mischief and berate them publicly. She tried not to. But some times that didn't work. She didn't see anyone who was vandalising walls or tearing up the chairs. Violetta picked a seat near the window and happily sat down, just glancing around at her fellow students.

[img src=" "] "...The spell of mist is particularly difficult to use, and is not preferred by Aurors in real battle situations because of its double-edged properties and the fact that it takes a long time to cast. It is ideal if one wants to..."James sighed and rubbed his eyes, trying to take away the strain of reading too much. Everyone who knew him, even if only a little, knew that the only time he worked was when it was something related to Auror training. He had learned spells far beyond the NEWT level, to gain a running start for when he went through Auror training. In Potions, he made it a point to learn all the antidotes and poisons. The rest, he did not bother with. He was good at Transfiguration, decent at Charms. Now, with evening making it's mark on the sunlight, James decided to call it a day. I still don't understand why someone can't just use a Disillusionment charm before entering battle. There is the risk of being hit by an ally if you're in a group, but I have heard of no Auror using it when alone either. Perhaps they just never thought of it, he mused, walking aimlessly across the common room. But there were no maybes in this situation. He would have to test it practically as soon as possible. Perhaps the charm would flicker if other spells were used while it was in effect. James pouted slightly, he couldn't see Rose or Charlotte anywhere, and he was now bored. Not watching where he was going, James almost stumbled over a chair that was set near the common room window. Cursing his absent mindedness, he turned to apologize to the person sitting on the chair. "Sorry, I didn't-" he stopped, surprised by the person he was addressing. Violetta didn't usually enter the common room, and James knew her, though not as well as the others in his class. They had also met each other a few times outside Hogwarts, considering Kingsley Shacklebolt and and his father worked closely together. By now, James became aware of a slight throbbing in the last three toes of his left foot. He drew up a chair and sat down, taking some pressure off the leg. He smiled slightly at Violetta, and said, "Well, I suppose there could have been better ways to run into each other. In any case, how come you're out here in this corner of the tower?" He made a mental note to ask someone to help test out his theory as soon as possible, before snapping back to the present completely.

It would be nice to have Charlotte pop out of nowhere and talk in her horrible imitation of a British accent. But since that had happened once already, Violetta thought it wouldn’t be happening twice in a week. But, someone did decide to walk into her while she was on a chair, no less. Violetta turned her head to see who it was that couldn’t see a chair in plain sight. Ah, James Potter. He apologized and Vi smiled at him. “Detention, Potter, for not opening your eyes.” Violetta said, her tone of voice completely at odds with the words she were speaking.
It was known that their fathers were friends and while James and Violetta were in the same year, they didn’t run in the same social circles. Charlotte would be the one to bring them closer, Violetta thought. That is, if those two were in an actual relationship and not just friends with benefits. So Charlotte got all the benefits without the heartache that could possibly happen? Violetta didn’t think she liked this arrangement very much. For herself, that is. Charlotte seemed fine with this and if she was happy, then Violetta wouldn’t interfere too much.
“Yes, there could be better ways for you to get my attention.” Vi said. “I needed some Gryffindors.” She replied, letting out a soft laugh. “Having a room by myself is lovely and all. But after six years of staying in a dorm with four other girls, you get used to noises. Plus, I can’t talk to Lysander all the time. Other girls might get jealous.” She told him, not entirely sure what Lysander’s current status was. Single? Attached? “Now, what was occupying your mind so much that you couldn’t walk properly?” She asked.

James relaxed in his seat, holding up hands in mock surrender. "I bow down to your Head Girl superiority, please revoke my detention," he mock-pleaded. The ache from the crash was already subsiding. Good. After a few visits to the Healer, James had taken the utmost care not to repeat the practice. The Healer herself was alright, but the potions? Not so much. He chuckled upon hearing why Violetta had found it necessary to come down to the common room.
"We really do want what we can't have it seems. I for one, wanted nothing but silence for the past hour. And a mass Silencing Charm would just ruin the reputation of me being a jolly party person," James sighed. He loved parties and hated studying. But this was different. He wanted to be a better Auror than his father, and the sooner the better. Privately, James knew he was better than most seventh years by now. Of course, it was a sentiment he would never voice in public.
"I was thinking about the Disillusionment Charm. When an Auror is caught in a tight spot, the use of a Disillusionment Charm is the best possible option for safety. But there is no record of ANY Auror having done so. I'm wondering if the charm would hold if someone were to cast high intensity spells while under it. Sadly, going invisible and throwing jynxes in this crowded place seems to be out of the question," he said regretfully. Why don't we have a Dueling club again? he wondered, mostly to himself.

“Detention revoked until further notice.” Violetta nodded her head. “You wanted silence?” Vi laughed softly. “There is a spell that enables you not to have to listen to anyone who talks to you.” The girl said. “Although, you're right. You'd ruin your own reputation. And we can't have that. It would be like me suddenly becoming a wild party girl.” The brunette smiled. She couldn't imagine herself becoming like that. Forgoing her studies and attending parties and getting drunk. She'd become a Daily Prophet headline, that was for sure.
Violetta listened to James as he spoke. Disillusionment Charm? Vi had heard of that. She didn't think she tried to cast it just yet. Perhaps this year they'd taught that. “Not everything gets recorded down.” Violetta said. “In my opinion, that is. And besides, like you've mentioned, becoming invisible might not be the best thing to do when in a crowded area with spells flying about. Might give you a head start, but if you can use that moment to cast a Shield spell or attack, why bother to be invisible?” She asked. But what did she know? She wasn't going to be an Auror after she left Hogwarts.
“Intending to be an Auror?” She asked, smiling at him. “My brother says it was hell working under our father. Good luck if you do become an Auror.” Vi said. “And speaking of my brother, he's actually going to be the one who's starting up the Duelling club. I think I saw a sign up form somewhere. Or maybe I've jumped the gun and just told you something I wasn't supposed to.” Violetta shrugged. “Tony's an Auror. I encourage you to bombard him with questions. Though he might just do the same.” Vi said, thinking of how she'd mentioned James in a letter.

James pouted again, something which was getting to be a habit in the last few minutes. "I know the charm. But I didn't want to appear deaf and dumb when someone calls me from nearby, and I don't even respond." He sighed, before closing his eyes for a few seconds. His head was throbbing from doing so much reading. "Talking about studious, how do you manage to read so much every single day and still have your head intact?" he asked. It was a genuine question.
"Auror training is the only reason I personally read like this, and my head feels like a horde of hippogriffs are dancing inside after getting drunk on Firewhisky," he grimaced, before massaging his temples expertly. Though usually he massaged it when listening to a few professors lecture. He listened as Violetta asked him why the Disillusionment charm would be useful.
"I'm talking about solo situations to be honest. And when one person is hiding from five trained wizards, a shield charm will not be of much use. One offensive spell will not hit five people. But if they cannot see you, it's an advantage you can use against all five of them, yeah?" he pointed out. He really wanted some peace and quiet before he broke and yelled at the whole room.
"Well Aurors like to gossip, I think. Any new, innovative move spreads like wildfire. My dad always tells me about them, I don't think he'd leave out something like this," said James, before standing up. "I really, really need to be someplace quieter. Want to come?" James motioned. "And if there's a dueling club, I'm going to ask Tony to make me member number 1. He will have to answer so many questions he'll feel like a fossil professor," James answered, smiling in a wolfish manner.

Violetta laughed softly when James replied. “You can't have it all, apparently.” She said, watching him close his eyes. “Years and years of hard practice.” The brunette answered. “And the genes.” Vi added. “Well, I think the youngest Shacklebolt might not have gotten any.” The girl said. “Oh, and being the middle child helps. Middle child syndrome and all.” Violetta told him. She did think those were all the reasons why she still had her head intact, as James put it. That, and a need to prove herself and make something out of herself.
Vi grinned at the mental imagine she'd conjured up after James' description of what was going on in his head. “Ouch.” She said. “That is quite true.” Vi admitted after James broke it down for her. “I suppose my brother could have used that. Then he might not have got attacked by like seven wizards.” The brunette said, recalling what Tony had written in his letter.
“Aurors like to gossip? I think everyone likes to gossip.” Vi replied. She might not be the one who started the rumours, but Vi sure played a part in gossip when she asked for it or told someone else about it. It was just part of being a student and wanting to know who was snogging who in the Charms classroom. “Sure.” The girl said, following James to wherever he wanted to be. Someplace quiet? “I would volunteer the Head common room, but I just came from there.” She told him. Violetta chuckled. “I just told him that he was old in a letter. I'm sure he'd love to feel like a fossil.”
