JOSEPHINE EMMANUELLE MONTAGUE
INTRODUCTION
Full name: Josephine Emmanuelle Montague
Nickname(s): Jo, Josie
Age: Twenty-Two
Gender: Female
House: Former Slytherin
Occuption: OCCUPATION
APPEARANCE
Play By: Evan Rachel Wood
Style: Josephine would happily sacrifice a little comfort for a chic outfit, always tries to look her best when she is out and about. When she is home or with close friends, however, she likes to wear comfortable clothing, and doesn't worry much about what she looks like. It's all about the environment.
Distinguishing Marks: Ears pierced, tattoo on upper back reading “All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream”, tattoo on upper, inner thigh in the shape of a heart. What is most interesting about Josephine, however, is her ability to change her appearance at will, as she was born a Metamorphmagus.
PERSONALITY
Likes: Lamp shades, cranberries, classical music, philosophy, psychoactives and other drugs
Dislikes: Blisters, bad hair days, repugnant odor, lemons, carbonated beverages
Boggart: Dying by suffocation
Patronus: Weasel
Strengths: Free-spirited, artistic, radical, courageous, whimsical
Weaknesses: Irrational, critical, reckless, brash, irresponsible
Personality: Josephine is an extremely carefree person. Growing up in a rich household gave her the opportunity to experience a childhood of little worry, and the mindset has stuck with her into her early adult years. She enjoys the fires that life provides, and proceeds to poke and even ignite them rather than ignore them or put them out. This means she is very impulsive, and prone to making quick decisions without thinking them through. Her fresh spontaneity can be a virtue, but Josephine considers very little other what is in front of her and where that may take her. She yearns for excitement, and detests being brought down to earth by others, preferring to be a, very stubborn dreamer. Many people have tried to put a little logical sense into her, as they are put off by her erratic, different ways of doing things, but all have failed.
From a young age, she had a great appreciation for all types of art, be them fine or more modern. She was spoiled with art lessons by her parents, receiving private lessons in oil painting, sculpture, pottery, watercolor, and photography. The first was by far her favorite- though she still continues the other forms as well. Perhaps an interesting way to better understand Josephine is to examine her art. Very little of it follows a general pattern; her exhibits are scatterbrained and erratic, but they do have very interesting, sometimes lovely, qualities to them- just like Josephine herself. Everything she does is a whim, and she is not afraid. Consequences never bothered her, not even the idea of them. Her brash attitude is unresting.
BIOGRAPHY
Father: Octavius Montague
Mother: Penelope Clearwater
Siblings: Younger brother (sixth year Slytherin)
General History: The Montague’s were not unlike any other death eater family, which is why they were horrified to find out their only son was marrying hufflepuff Penelope Clearwater. Octavius was instantly disowned, cut off from his wealthy inheritance, and basically exiled from death eater society, or what was left of them. The pair was happy together though, which was what counted in the end. Though Octavius was a relatively stoic and stone-faced man, Penelope understood him, and she was a shining light where he had none. They were cast out from each side of their own societies, but found solace in one another.
They had two children, a girl, Josephine Emmanuelle Montague, and six years later, a boy. Octavius was particularly taken with his daughter; unfortunately, this favoritism was painfully obvious to everyone who witnessed it. Octavius allowed the girl to participate in whatever activities she wished, and spent a lot of time with her, teaching her everything he knew about the world and the people in it. Josephine, or Jo to close friends and family, was particularly drawn to anything the least bit dangerous. She loved fire, mountains, going fast in any respect, jumping, and playing with dangerous objects. Her mother was constantly beside herself, but her father found the traits intriguing, and allowed Josephine to indulge herself. She was particularly drawn to the arts, so he paid for extensive lessons in all fields. Jo was particularly drawn to painting.
Soon, however, she was of school age, and Josephine was sent off to Hogwarts School. To her mother’s secret dismay, both of her children were sorted into Slytherin. This was, although, to their father’s great delight, as he hoped that his promising daughter would be the link back to his family that he’d lost so many years ago. Josephine was anything but an obedient student. She was constantly breaking rules: being out of bed at night, using magic in the hallways, reading books from the restricted section, and exploring the forbidden forest, to name a few. She missed her art lessons, her indulgences few.
Not being a big socialite in school, Jo had few people to turn to after school ended. She was passionate about her art, despite the few fields of work it allowed for. Once more, coming from a rich family assisted her; she purchased a penthouse apartment in London for her living space, and purchased the warehouse first floor of the same building for her work space. For almost three years, it seemed all she did was create. With regular pensions from her parents, she was financially stable, and this allowed for her art to flow easily. She was happy in her life, and even started to venture into the art scene of London, going to galleries and exhibit openings, making connections and even friends.
Three years out of Hogwarts, Josephine received news of her father’s death. She was devastated. She and her father had always been close, quite unlike her and her mother, and she took the loss very hard. There was a drastic change in the type of art work she was producing, but ironically, it is now known as some of her best today. With her family all battling with the control of the financial estate, Josephine has faded very much into the background, choosing not to associate herself with her family. She stopped taking her pension and is living on what she makes in a much smaller apartment. All of her money goes to keeping her studio and for supplies.
