[atrb=width,400] dance with somebody The way to the Hufflepuff room was a very long corridor. Linus was making his way back to the common room after dinner and he got bored walking in a straight line. What was the fun in that? He supposed he could dance. Well, he wanted to dance. But considering the fact that there were a lot of people around him, they could be in danger. Oh yes. They were the ones in danger. Not him. He had fallen down enough times. He couldn't be embarrassed any more if he wanted to. Linus slowed down his speed, so that people could walk by him for their own safety.
Of course, dancing alone was not fun at all. He needed a partner. Who could he get? He studied the various Hufflepuffs and Slytherins that were walking by him. He frowned as he couldn't determine who he should pick. Linus stopped by the side of the hallway, leaning against the wall. There were a couple of cute people walking by. Linus nearly asked another boy who he knew was interested in him. Nearly, being the operative word. But then he spotted his sister.
“Pssst! Cassie!” He whispered conspiratorially, as if he was up to something. Of course he was up to something. Getting Cassie to dance with him was going to be brilliant. Then again, Linus didn't consider the fact that Cassie might not want to do so. No matter, Linus could get her to do so. He'd just talk her ears off so that she'd dance with him to shut him up. It was quite a good thing, rambling on about nothing at all.

[atrb=width,400] lost souls aren't worth saving Cassie's school year had started off entirely differently compared to the last five. She found herself hanging around Xander Creevey and his sense of the world was starting to rub off on her. Because of the boy she had now been to her first party, smoked her first spliff, and had had multiple drinks. That, of course, was already all in one party. Which, by the end of it, had been pretty fun. She could understand why Linus liked going to the parties. There had also been handsome boys and beautiful girls, and she was certain that Linus was acquainted with most of them at the least.
This of course, meant that Cassie was spending as much time with Xander as possible. She liked the boy, a lot, even if she could not just out right say it to him. His rebelling ways were starting to rub off on her, just starting though. Tonight, she had even dared to sit next to the Gryffindor and his friends. It was a nice feeling, just the change that anyone would need. Normally she would sit next to Bert and they would talk about their day, but Cassie had usually lived a very uninteresting life. So now, having bad boy Xander come into her life was all but boring.
Eventually dinner was over and it was time to head back to the dorms. Xander and some others were going to sneak around, and as much as Cassie wanted to join them she had homework that needed to be finished. As she walked down the hallway with Slytherins and fellow Hufflepuffs she paused when she heard her name be called. She turned towards the side with a curious glance. "Linus?" she asked, "Why are you standing here-" Her eyes caught site of the couple near by-"kind of alone?" tag: linus longbottom word count: ### outfit: link notes: dance with me! |

[atrb=width,400] dance with somebody Linus had noticed that his sister had somehow managed to sit with the Gryffindors at their table. He had also noticed that she was hanging out with Xander when she was at that table. Linus didn’t know how he felt about that, so he didn’t mention anything about it. At least, not now. Xander was a cool bloke to be with. If Cassie liked to be around him, he wasn’t going to complain about it. Until she started stumbling into the common room drunk as hell. Then again, he did that on multiple occasions, so he couldn’t exactly scream at her for it.
But now, was not the time to be thinking about this. Right now, Cassie was stand there and asking him why he was nearly alone. He was nearly alone? Linus looked around and saw a couple near him. He walked right up to her and grinned. “Because I’m looking for a partner. To dance with. Not to do anything else with. And I thought you’d be the ideal partner to dance with. Do you even know how to dance? Because if you want to hang out with Xander, you’d probably need to know how to dance.” And there he went, mentioning Xander. Granted, it was only because he thought Cassie might reject him. So he was using Xander as a sort of incentive for Cassie to dance with him.
“Shall we?” Linus asked, holding out his hand for her to take. There were still students walking past them, but Linus never bothered about what people thought of his antics. For Cassie, it might be a different thing though. A Slytherin passed by and Linus smiled at him, knowing that it would only make him annoyed. He should have asked a Slytherin acquaintance to dance, without even asking for permission. If Catherine had walked by, Linus would have done so. Alas, she did not. And so Cassie was the lucky one this time around.

[atrb=width,400] lost souls aren't worth saving "I guess I can dance with you," she shrugged. It was not like she was ready to go back to her dorm just yet. After all that would just be her getting ready for bed while all the other girls gossiped and worked on homework. She had already finished her homework and gossiping was where she failed as a teenage girl. She had not been aware that Xander even liked dancing. Well, ballroom dancing she could not imagine. Which was fine with her, she was pretty sure that she could live without ever having to dance at a ball. "It's not like I'm gonna bail on my brother when he needs a dance partner," she teased.
In all truths, she adored her brother. If he asked her to jump off a cliff, much like the cliche, she would definitely do it without a hesitation. Cassie took her brothers hand with a smile on her face and placed her other hand on his shoulder. Soon, the two were dancing down the corridor. "How's your final year going?" She looked up at her big brother with curiosity. Since the year started she had seen less of him, and for her that was rather heartbreaking. You would think that being in the same house as him would mean she would see him all the time. Usually that was the case, but maybe it was just Cassie's growing social life that was changing the times they saw each other.
The Longbottoms were a wacky bunch, that was made clear by their father before either of them ever started school. Receiving looks from other students was something that they both just grew use to. Linus had a better reaction when he was stared at, and sometimes he would even go off and flirt with them. That was the confidence Cassie wanted, to truly not care about what people thought about her. Yet, whenever she tried to be assertive she would always stumble on her words. Maybe she just needed more practice. tag: linus longbottom word count: 336 outfit: link notes: dance dance and these are the lives you'd love to lead |

[atrb=width,400] dance with somebody “More enthusiasm, Caz!” Linus said, after she agreed to dance with him. He was just someone who was naturally full of energy. It was a rare thing to see Linus upset. If he ever did get upset, he'd lock himself into a room and ignore everyone. Well, that was when he was truly upset and angry and would say or do things he regretted. Linus was able to ignore any daily annoyances because it really wasn't worth his time thinking about people who ruined his day. “Of course you can't. It's against the Longbottom siblings code. Rule number fourteen, never bail on your brother when he needs a dance partner.” Linus nodded. “I'm glad you remember it.” He grinned. He'd just made that up on the spot. But hey, it would be quite a thing if they actually had this code.
When Cassie took his hand, Linus beamed happily. “Busy busy.” He replied his sister, patting her head. “Too many parties to be had, pranks to play, trying to think of ways to woo that cute little housemate we have. Not to mention studying for NEWTs. I always wonder why they have to name it that. Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests. It probably wouldn't be as nastily exhausting if they didn't put that in the name of the test. Don't slack off now in your sixth year. You're going to need to start now. If I can't give our parents good grades, at least you can!” Linus spoke, wondering if he should engaged Cassie in a much more exciting form of dance. Like belly dancing. Plus, he had gone on about the tests because he wasn't quite sure if he wanted Cassie to know about Amelia. But if not Cassie, then who else?
“Now, I will be a busybody and ask about your year. Anything you need help with? I don't think I can help you with your studies. You are so much cleverer than me.” Linus stated, smiling at her. Linus had no issues with his younger sister being smarter than him. Everyone had their own strengths. He would not laugh at someone because they scored lower grades than him or had a narrow mindset. Well, he might try to broaden their view of things if they were narrow minded.

[atrb=width,400] lost souls aren't worth saving Cassie gave her brother a big smile, ear to ear, to show Linus how excited and happy she was. "Don't forget rule number two; never humiliate your fellow Longbottoms," she teased. Although, she would prefer not to look any more ridiculous than a Longbottom on an average basis. Even if she wanted to be able to fully let loose and be like her older brother, there was still something in her that kept her from being so. It was these moments that made her hate that about herself, that 'in control' persona she had to have. It was terrible for nights like this. Still, she had already agreed. "But I guess, rule number fourteen defeats the purpose of rule number two, eh?" she smiled.
"I think they'd be nastily exhausting still, at least the makers are being honest about it," she shrugged as Linus lead. "You'll get decent grades at the least, Linus, you're smart and I'm sure you can find someone to be a study buddy with. They say that teaching is the best way to study! At least, that's how Dad helps me with Herbology. Maybe you could talk to him about subjects you need to study for? Or even me! I could always have more things to learn about," she exclaimed, "I mean, what's a subject you're good at? Merlin knows I'm rubbish with spells and potions." She wanted to help her big brother in his final year, and of course a sixth year teaching a seventh year? Well that would just be embarrassing, compared to a seventh year educating a sixth year that is. "Wait, hold on. Did you say pretty housemate? Blimey Linus, who's the lucky lady?" she gushed.
"Um, I've found some new friends? And I think they actually like me. Like I adore Bert and Alice but Xander is exciting and he hangs out with such cool people!" Cassie started. "I think he actually like likes me. Can you believe it Linus? Sixth year and I'm finally getting my first boyfriend!" Cassie found all her free time to following Xander around and trying anything he suggested. Anything to make her seem less of a child around him, and anything that would properly impress him. "He took me to my first party, that he threw! This year is just going better than I ever thought it would." tag: linus longbottom word count: 393 outfit: link notes: -twirls- |

[atrb=width,400] dance with somebody “Now you're just humouring me.” Linus said, but liking the smile on his sister's face nonetheless. “Oh dear. Never humiliate? Am I humiliating you now?” The Hufflepuff asked, just as Cassie spoke again. “Yes, it does defeat the purpose. We need to put more thought into our rules. But rule number one doesn't require much thought, right?” Rule number one, always love a fellow Longbottom. That was relatively simple and didn't require much effort. At least, Linus thought so. “Next time I'll ask you to dance in the privacy of my dorm room, alright?”
“Honesty. Yes. It's a good value. I suppose they are preparing us mentally to be praying for an early death.” Linus commented. He let Cassie speak, before wrinkling his nose. “A study buddy? Those aren't fun...” He muttered. Now, there was another type of buddy that would be so much more fun, but he didn't think his sister needed to know about those. Or maybe she had one of her own. No, he would not think about that. “Teaching. So I should go teach younger years? Want to volunteer for that?” Linus asked, grinning at her. Cassie was really so much smarter than he was. At least she bothered to do her homework. He did his homework too, but not always. “I'm really just average at everything. Potions, yeah. I'm alright with that. I mean, we just need to remember the method to make the potions. I can remember the ingredients but oh, the methods. Clockwise, counterclockwise. I always mix those up.” Linus replied. “I guess as long as we don't melt a cauldron, we'll be fine?”
“Nooo, I did not say pretty housemate. You heard wrongly, dear sister. Go check your hearing.” Linus teased her, before getting somewhat serious. “Amelia Abercrombie. Beautiful blonde fifth year. You wouldn't mind befriending her and you know, get to know what makes her tick, would you?” Linus asked. He had never asked Cassie to do that, mainly because well, the relationships he found himself in (if he could call them that) was mostly physical. He certainly couldn't ask Cassie to get close to them and find out what turned them on.
“New friends. Always lovely.” Linus said, attempting to twirl Cassie. “Xander is cool. I'm his friend. I'm cool too, right?” Linus decided to check with Cassie. “He likes likes you?” Linus smiled at her. He chuckled when Cassie expressed her happiness at that. “I think that's awesome. But am I supposed to threaten to go smack him if he hurts you? Because I don't do that sort of thing.” Linus laughed out loud when Cassie said she'd been to a party. “Wait, your first party? And I wasn't there? How horrible. Why was I not there? Maybe I was snogging someone.” Or something more. But again, Cassie didn't need to know that. “I'm glad you're having a good year so far. And it's only just beginning!” Linus grinned.

[atrb=width,400] lost souls aren't worth saving "Don't worry Linus, with how cool and popular you are, I'd be the one to do the humiliating," she said. The idea of Longbottom Rules was amusing to her, although it was a great idea. "Rule number three though, that should be something like 'never insult a Longbottom with meaning'. Like we can joke but if we mean it, we are bad people. I mean like telling another Longbottom they're stupid or something that's not true. Especially if it's not true. If you trying to tell them that they're being a prick, this is acceptable," she rambled. Sometimes Cassie wished she was better with words, she could only hope that Linus could be more creative with a short version of her rule. He was usually better at things like that. "Private isn't neccessary, Linus, you're my big brother, not some lame boy who's trying to court me or something," she said.
"Exactly, just pure honesty in the names of those tests. I bet the first set of students who had to take them didn't take the name seriously and suffered for it," she smiled. "Well what other kind of buddy could you study with? I mean you should study, I know you want to take over the Leaky but you should be the smart businessman that everyone in Diagon Alley fears!" She rolled her eyes at Linus saying he was average, "If it makes you feel better, I have melted my cauldron, so many times. Thank Merlin that the professor has extras."
"Amelia Abercrombie...Isn't she a prefect? How'd you officially meet her exactly?" Cassie asked. She took a second to picture Linus with Amelia Abercrombie. "I can see if she would like to get tea sometime in the future. It would have to depend on my ever so busy lifestyle," she teased.
"I sure hope he does, otherwise I'm making myself look really really stupid," she stated. Cassie laughed, "Don't be stupid Linus, I'm not some fourteen year old girl. There's no need to go around threatening every bloke that talks to me. Now twirl me." She nodded with a smile of pride. "I don't doubt that you were too busy snogging someone to go to the party, Linus. It's weird though, just with how long it took for me to go to a party. I'm a bloody six year, I should have two years of experience behind me at the least." tag: linus longbottom word count: ### outfit: link notes: dance with me! |

[atrb=width,400] dance with somebody “Oh, I'm cool and popular?” Linus teased. “Then you should be too, you know, by association and all.” Linus said. He listened to Cassie as she talked about not insulting a Longbottom with meaning. He frowned, not really getting what Cassie was going on about until she explained it. “Ah.” He muttered. “I say we just have it as 'Never insult a fellow Longbottom.'.” Linus said, smiling at Cassie before widening his smile at a Slytherin who walked by and stared at them. “Short, simple, sweet.” Linus continued. He grinned at her, before moving his feet again to a rhythm only he knew.
“Those poor students.” Linus muttered. “There are no other buddies to study with. The name itself doesn't exactly inspire me to study. Study, study, study.” Linus said, making a face. Tests and exams were not his strong suit, but true to his Hufflepuff nature, Linus persevered on and did his best. Even if he failed at it. Linus chuckled at Cassie's words. “Can I employ you? You'd be my assistant and you can instill some form of fear into my competitors by telling them how smart I am.” He winked at her. “You have melted cauldrons? I nearly melted one. There was a Gryffindor next to me who saved it. And from then on she always sat next to me.” Linus said. He didn't mention that he slept with the girl. Cassie didn't need to know such things about him.
Linus nodded his head. “It's always good to have a Prefect as a friend.” Linus said, before grinning at the memory of meeting Amy. “I was drunk and fell down. Amy had just finished her Astronomy class or something and we met on the seventh floor. I kind of asked her out on a date. I don't recall much of what I said, but I remember asking her out.” It was funny what his drunken mind remembered and it didn't. “Awe. I forgot. You're such a busy bee nowadays. Do I have to make an appointment if I want to see you then?”
“Have you two kissed? Or am I not supposed to ask that?” Linus grinned. “Twirling in progress!” Linus said, as he did the necessary motions. “Good. I really don't want to go threatening blokes that are bigger than me and can snap me like a twig.” The Hufflepuff told her, relieved. “Three years, Cassie. Three years. I scored an invite to a part in the middle of my third year. Now, I hadn't wanted to try the Firewhiskey but ended up doing so when we played a game. I lost terribly and thus began my partying years. You know, we can throw one. The Longbottom party! Maybe for the New Year. That would be very fun indeed.”
